Right, got the go ahead from the bank manager (wife) for an engine swap. Really want to go for the 1242 75 engine or 1242 16v. I read the old posts and it seems the main sticking problem for both is the MPI intake manifold which fouls the bulkhead.
Any solution? I could try to cut the bulkhead and weld an angled piece to suit, but I'd have to add stiffeners cos the firewall is structural (or am i wrong)
Other than that someone mentioned fitting a SPI inlet manifold. Other than the obvious problems (does it fit?)am I going to lose power by reverting to single point injection or doesn't the manifold affect the MPI/SPI?
Lots of questions I know but when I start looking for the engine I don't want to go for the wrong one.

Thanks

Tony

You're gonna need to change the ECU if you go for an MPI engine which means changing the lockset on doors and ignition to cope with the immobiliser key for the MPI ecu. If you go for the 1242 8v SPI the ECU is basically the same and won't need swapping, although a superchip wouldn't hurt cos they'll map the 1108 ecu to cope with the 1242 spi lump. Dropping a 1242 SPI lump needs minor changes which pete should be able to tell you about if you wanna opt for the DIY approach! Hope it helps anyway

Damn, hadn't thought about the immobiliser!!!Really do want the power of the 75, but if I need new keys on top of other problems, may have to go for 60.

I have been lead to believe the stud pattern on the cylinder head is different for 60 and 75 inlet manifolds - 75 certainly has one more bolt anyway. Never actually seen the difference for myself though. John is dead right about the fuel pressure - there's some ecu and loom issues to resolve on a MPI swap too.

As far as I know, the 75 makes it's extra power by a slightly warmer cam and marginally higher compression ratio (9.8 as opposed to the 60's 9.6) and better fuelling from the MPI. If you're keen to swap to the 75 engine, maybe have a look at a breakers (or pretend to be interested at one on a forecourt) and compare - it may be easier than the rumours suggest. You could always buy 60 and 75 inlet manifold gaskets and see if the stud patterns match?

I apologise as this reply is full of second hand and (mostly) unverified info!!

Pete.

Well, with the list of things to do: ECU, keys, inlet manifold, fuel pump in addition to the usual for a 1242 60 i think i may just go for the 60 and with the money saved go for a supersprint manifold (Punto or Cinq? [?]) and/or warmer cam and thinner head gasket (has anybody found any?). Should get a respectable amount of power once its remapped after all that [^]. Any estimates?

Thanks for all the info.

Try http://www.vanaaken.com for the gasket possibly

I'm just about to start my engine swap.
After my holidays I can give you more details as I will get it dyno tested afterwards.
Let's see I hope for 80hp at around 5500 (as I have a few mods already), but more important a nice thick layer of torque

if i am not mistaken (sorry if i am) the 60 punto means 60bhp why swap the engine just for 6bhp woundn't an air filter, exhaust and chip give more bhp for less hassle.

got a cinq

More torque and with the 60 engine, all the bits you mentioned would add extra power to the 60 lump. Well worth it if you've got an engine thats about to pack in and don't want to repair it. Plus the 60 lump will use all the cinq parts too so theres only a couple of things to swap over

Nice question with regards an engine swap in a Cinq SX....

I know that the 900cc lump has different mounts to the 1108 FIRE lump in the Sporting, but I want to know if I could put an 1242 8v in my SX, and would I have to change any driveshafts or that sort of gubbins??

Arse

Tune up the 899. Have a magazine article with a few cento's on a rollin road and they got a 899 putting out 64hp. (I think the trofeo rally cars used to use the 899 but I ain't sure)
