The Seicento has been having short journeys in and out of the garage. It wasn't happy with this and it basically:

1. Fired up as normal
2. Ran on 2 cylinders for a few seconds
3. Then ran smooth as silk as per normal
4. But the orange 'gearbox' lamp is on

Anyhoo, I disconnected the battery for an hour and then fired it up - now it's doing that mental revving thing where it goes up and down on tickover. It did this a few years back but disappeared.

1. Suggestions? Quick blast down the bypass?
2. Do I need a cheap code resetter?

Cheers

Fire her up let fan kick im twixe turn off disconect battry for 45seconds replace battry (ecu reset) may take 1 to 2miles to ajust

It either needs a phonic re-learn or, more likely, the Idle Air Control (in the throttle body) is sticking.

Buy some aerosol carb cleaner. Clean the outside of the throttle body, remove the TB, clean the inside.

A cheap code reader would at least tell you the initial issue and allow you to reset codes.

Good news everyone.......

Fired it up this morning.

1. Running like silk

2. Orange light has gone

What a cracking car these are.

Errr............OK. Running fine but the orange engine/gearbox light on.

What's the best cheap ECU resetetting tool? Don't need owt fancy.

Cheers.

Any old cheapo OBD2 reader from eBay should do it -- won't -- probably -- handle air bag and PAS issues, but will read all the engine codes and do resets.

Cheers. It's upset at being driven 15 feet out of the garage and reversed back into it for days on end.

Fluids are fine.

This one looks promising:

This may sound like a daft question but where on the Seicento is the ODB2 connector? Under the bonnet or fusebox?

Ta.

The only make seicentos upto 53 plate iv never seen a 04!

I was refering to the general location of the diagnostic socket. 2001 onwards all makes should be obd2.

2004 all diag sockets should be within a meter of the ignition iirc.

i've seen a 54 sei sporting in grey, was probably the last one sold or registered.

just for future reference, part of the regulations that means all new cars have to have a OBD2 port also state that said port must be reachable from sitting in the drivers seat - to that end no matter what car you are in they are in teh drivers footwell somewhere ;)

Good to know - how very convenient. I should be able to use the same device for the 100hp then. Not that it has any lights on.

Will see how I go with my £13 reader then.
