Had a Hicup :) trying to fix fathers car a cinquecento sporting ( god knows why a flat cap waering 69 year old has got one :) ) anyway he been losing water for a couple of weeks. I was told it would be the water pump got one put it on still leaking :( round 2 was tonight. Found the fault core plug small hole thought sod it rad weld first see if it works. Was a bit eager to get engine upto temp to put radweld in, forgot to put altinator pully back on Doh hence would not start :). So after putting it back on tried to start it not a chance, to me looks like timing way out ? not touch cam belt god knows how it moved. So asking if anyone has a link to a picture of timing marks or got a pic they could mail me :)

Many thanx for reading this

If you havent moved the cambelt, the timing will be inline.

If you release the tensioner and physically move the belt you will alter the cam timing.

The ignition takes its signal from a sensor that reads off the alternator belt pulley. If that pulley is no the wrong way, the ignition system will fire the wrong way round.

If you inspect the crank pulley, you will see a 2mm ish diameter pin on it, theres an appropriately sized hole on the alternator belt pulley. Make sure the two line up, then it should go!

A good bit of advice is mark the pulley on the outer facing side with a scribe (or just gouge it with a screwdriver if youyre anuything like me )), in the approximate place of the timing mark on the crank pulley. Then if the pin partially shears youre sorted (mine did..)

Oh christ arse u hit the nail on the head :) yep remember now the the pin doh in the rush just put the damn pully on :(. Well now need the info friend told me to go top dead centre on the timing so moved it double doh :). From what I see on the cover at the bottom the mark is 12 o clock so set the top pully to 12 o clock ( the marks that is ) dont if this right for the timing or top pully needs to be 6 o clock.

Cheers Kai

Moved it as in released the belt from the pulleys. or just turned the pulleys?

If youve released it, the alignmrent marks are:

Bottom Mark to ~10o'clock (Line up pulley mark with back top edge of oil pump cover)

Top Mark to 9 o'clock (Line pulley up with triangular notch in back face of head)

Many thanx guys :) got it sorted will ask one more question. About 2 years ago father filled it up with diseal doh £600 from a main dealer to get it out  . Anyway since then if you floor it at about 3,000 rpm it hesiates for about a second then kicks in again  . As I said he is 69 so never really gets floored :) just bugs me when I get to use it, damn nippy little buggers spoilt by this fault.

Cheers kai

Cheers Dave :) can sleep now :) the thing with the timing proves to me dont try to fix a car after 101 hour working week when ya eyeballs are living next to ya big toes :).
