Ive recently been given a 1997 cinquecento sporting that was running just over a year ago and needed a wheel bearing, water pump and new belts.

Ive replaced the water pump and wheel bearing and put new belts on lining up the timing lines as stated in the haynes manual when refitting them. I went to turn it over after putting it all together and it was just clicking and not turning over at all.

I came on here and read a few posts and from what I read replaced the starter motor.

After fitting another starter motor that i got and turning the key the enging turns over but still wont start!!!

Im getting a spark from all four plugs as they are new and I checked they were all sparking before putting them in. There is feul going into the injector unit as when I took the air box off it was wet with feul inside and im pretty sure that the timing is ok as I lined it all up as best I could using the manual when refitting both belts.

Im all out of ideas and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Help!!

Many thanks

did u line up the bottom pulley correctly as it will fit in 3 positions but only one is correct.there is a little nipple sticking out from the crank pulley and the alternator belt pulley has a little hole where the nipple has to locate....easy mistake to make:bang:

Ok I'll take a look. Will I have to take both belts off and check everything is lined up again?.

ooooooh!

Yea I just put it on and didnt know it had to go in only one way.
Thank you so much. I will take a look tomorrow afternoon and let you know how I get on. Really hoping that this will fix it.

Thanks a million!

We have lift off!!

Started first turn of the key :)

Got a problem with the fan now though. It got to over 100 and it still had not come on causing it to start steaming out the bonnet.

What temperature should it come on?.

usually around 90-95 sounds like u have an air lock in the system...go thru the bleeding process again can take a few attempts to get rid of all air locks:bang:

That will be tomorrow afternoon's job then. Going to have to look in the haynes manual as im not to sure how to do it.

Argh this car is getting on my nerves!!

If there is an airlock will that stop the fan coming on then?

Thanks again

yes it will cause it to overheat...fill the system and open the bleed valve behind drivers headlight and wait till water is coming out of there with no air bubbles then close off again then open other bleed valve on top pipe going into heater thru the sound proofing directly above/behind spi unit again wait till no air bubbles again close off then run the car up and after a few mins running release both again in same order till totally air free and dont forget tohave heater on full going to screen to help dislodge any air caught in the matrix and all the time keep an eye on water level and top up as needed and i always leave car running till fan has kicked in at least 3 times(y)
