Has anynoe ever take the ball joint part on a cinq, I am looking to replace my front bushes the end of next week and I would like to remove both fornt wishbones from the car altogether.

From what I can understand and see I need to use a ball joint spillter to remove the threaded rod from the stub axle once the nut has been removed. Is it possible to remove the rest of the ball joint from the wishbone, also from one of my photos it looks like the ball joint has some sort of rubber boot protecting it?

I gather the ARB just unbolts from the wishbone by removing the 2 bolts, and the wishbone unbolts from the bottom of the car next to each bush. The front bush on a cinq looks to be bolted up into the car with two bolts, the rear bush looks to be connected to the car with a nut and bolt through the centre of the bushes.

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks

David

The ball joint at the outer end of the wishbone has a tapered shaft that goes into the hub carrier. Yes, remove the nut from the top. Be very careful if using an impact ball joint splitter, the rubber boot is there to protect the ball joint and should not be damaged, use a screw type splitter.

Before removing the nut, make sure there is no rust on the thread above the nut and either get a new nut or some loctite for reassembly.

You cannot replace the ball joint in the wishbone, at least not with a press, and the ball joint alone is not available as a part.

The ARB unbolts, do both sides at the same time and it will drop out of the way.

The inner mounts are just bolts through the bushes, plenty of loosoil prior to starting work, not just on the exposed threads, try and work some into the bushes. The inner metal core of the bush can attach itself to the bolt by corrosion.

The bushes push out OK with a vice and two suitably sized sockets, the new ones push in the same way, with a bit lubrication.

Plenty coppaslip during reassembly of the inner mounts, just in case.

The taper is a bit of a bugger to get back seated and tightened, but brute force and higgorance usually does the job.

Cheers
