I have a R reg Cinq sporting (1108 sporting) that I have aquired which needs some work. I've stripped the engine (knowing it had a blown head gasket) assuming I would only need to skim the head which I could have done myself I found a dropped valve seat on cylinder No2. The head is also warped through the whole head, on the combustion side its warped by 12 thou, therefore skimming would just increase the compression ratio so much it's going to blow head gaskets even more than they already are prone to anyway. So I need another head. Am i right in thinking I need the same casting number as the one I have as there are many different options or has someone used a different casting which worked ok? Also if anyone has any heads that they are happy to let go that will suit that I can recon to get the puppy back on the road please shout me. The casting number I have is 48431614.

I have a spare spi head in the oxfordshire area, needs a skim, or an entire sporting engine (requires a cambelt). pm me if you're interested in either.

cheers
Pete

I'm in Colchester Essex but can either arrange collection via fedex or I'm racing at silverstone in a few weeks if anyones in that direction. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not that clued up on these things too much. I guess the SPi head is the one I need? You can contact me via email [email protected] and let me know what you would want for the head / engine and it's condition. I'm happy to skim it, I can do that at home. Its a shame the head on the car dropped a seat otherwise I would have been laughing. Typical!
Again cheers guys.

Dave, if your casting isnt too fecked (I take it if you say the other word the post gets deleted) I could make it good. The cam and valves in mine are fine and I would re-shim the buckets to suit anyway. Don;t worry if the casting is a little warped I can deal with that fairly easily. Mine is like a banana though!

i'd scrap your head

12 thou warping, ok you can mill the head side flat agian, but what about the cam bearings? they'll be well pissed

i dont think lowering the compression will make you blow gaskets more, there are plenty on heads about that are skimmed close to/on/past the max skim markers and they run without problems.

Don't worry buddy, I am not going to try and revive this one. She is scrap metal from now on. Just in the process of finding the replacement. I could actually remachine the cam bearing faces and fit some bearing shells but there isnt any point. If it was a 1960's ferrari maybe, but not a 98 cinquecento.

mine needs a blob of weld in the yellow circle, if you can do that in work you can have the head with out the cam n buckets for free

Yeah I can weld that with my TIG welder. I live next to work which is in Little Tey. That would be awesome if your happy to let it go. When would be suitable for you to meet up?

I'm working long days for the next few weeks but I should be able to get away for an hour or so this weekend.

Matt

That would be awesome if thats good for you. Were about a mile form the A12. I will PM you the address details.

I'd be tempted to key like a dentist does a tooth and use aluminium loaded epoxy?

Noel

I don't think the epoxy I can get hold of will take that sort of heat. People have made carbon heads and the like in the past using epoxy but I'm not brave enough for that. The welder I use can weld anything from huge castings to tiny ally brackets and its more my thing so I'll go down the welding route. Has anyone on here used epoxy on their heads and what were the results. I'd be fascinated to hear what people have done.

i doubt there will be many people that would of repaired there heads (unless theres some expensive porting and combustion chambre work) theres so many of these heads kicking about, i must have 3 or 4 in my sheds

Really? I went to an engine shop the other day to see if they would want to do the valve seats and they couldnt find one for me after speaking to three or four people on the phone. It's probably because evryone keeps them in their sheds. But at least I've found one now, I really wanted to get this car going as it has a bit of a story behind it for me. I wans't going to give up!
