Hi all, I'm new to the forum and new to a fiat, I have a 2003 Seicento, overheating problems at 30,000 miles how anoying, I took it to a local garage who tested and said head gasket needed at £400!

I intend to do myself, does anyone know order of removal i.e. exhaust manifold first, what parts I need ie gaskets, do I need to get the head skimmed? oh and what order the bolts go back in and to what torque?

Any helpfull tips and advice, would be greatly appreciated, I've had the car for a month and allready the exhaust has fell off.

Thankyou

Phil

hi

they are an easy car to work on.

i've not worked on an MPI, but what ive always done is leave the manifolds on - but disconnect them from everything else. Removing the throttle body, etc etc.

make a note of where everything came from, if possible put any nuts and bolt you remove back in place, if not then bag them up and label them!!

the head should be skimmed, this'll only cost around £25.

if you buy a head gasket set, it should include all the top end gaskets you need, inlet, exahaust, cam cover, head. you need new bolts as well really.

4 8 10 7 2

bolt removal order, refit is the oposite. torque is i think 30nm, and then 90degress, then a further 90degrees.

hope this helps, and welcome to the forum :)

Sorry, does body know anywhere near Dartford to have the head skimmed, I've looked on google but no luck.

Cheers

Phil

Cheers again, they want £40+ VAT not too bad I suppose still cheaper than £400, it'll now cost £60 for a gasket pack even though I already boughtthe head gasket did not realise I needed Rocker gasket, inlet manifold gasket e.t.c. as well, and then the £40 for the skim, still a saving.
