Hi guys I am wondering if you can help me, I seem To be going from one problem to the next I recently bought a 2009 fiat bravo in red (looks great).

I seem to have strange and inconsistent problems with it.

It started with glow plug lights coming on so given it was struggling to start I bought a full set of Bosch plugs. Starting slightly improved but not much.

Then just driving down the road
Whilst accelerating all the lights came on on the dash, lasted about 3 seconds and no loss of power.

Then last week had erratic idle and cleaned the MAF.

No last night was driving home and power was very poor 1500-2000 revs and there is a general smell of diesel when starting with poor fuel economy about 45 mpg driving like a granny!

I have hooked it up to to the multi ecu and no code is persisting.

I am lost guys.

It is the 2 litre
Multijet with 120,000 on the clock and should be a great car!

Any help with diagnostics/solutions would be greatly appreciated

Also forgot to add that when I switch the blower motors on the media centre cuts out for a second same with flashing on full beams

Check and clean all connection around the battery including any visible earth connection to body. Its something that doesn't cost you any money and easy to cancel out a suspect connection for some faults. What happens when you put a large electrical load on the car?

Hi chaps I have cleaned off the battery terminals and earth wires that I can see and this has made no difference.

I will fish out the multimeter tonight to check the battery and charging system. Does anyone know off hand what the proper readings ought to be ?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Hi Guys Just whipped the multimeter out and got the following readings

Battery 12.3 - 12.5v.

Idle at about 830 RPM with no electrical load 13.87 V
2000 RPM under NO electrical Load 13.92-13.98 v

Idle under full electrical load (lights blowers heaters etc) 12.9v falls to 12.45 v when the radiator fan comes on.

2000 RPM under electrical load 13.7v

Ideas chaps......my understanding is that the voltage for the battery is normal and the alternator seems to be pumping out the increased voltage when at idle and under increased RPM................................

cleaned the electrical earths to the body and from engine to the body.

Hi guys update on this problem.

I bought anew battery and it ran really well for a week then died on its arse again... Could this be the alternator ?

Does anyone know the part number for a multijet 165 one ?

Sorry for late reply, I'm a Croma owner so didn't see this.
The alternator voltages are marginal. You should be seeing at least 13.8V at 2000 RPM and full electrical load, typically about 14V. Looks like you need a new alternator, or if you are handy you could try repairing it. A regulator and brush pack will be cheaper than a new alternator.

Do you guys know the part number of the alternator or where to get the refurb pack ?

Hi,
If you click on the ePer link (in the blue bar just under the forum banner), you an enter your vehicle details and find out the alternater part number(s) for yourself. There might be different makes or models that will fit. because of this, if you want to buy just the brush pack / regulator you should look at the car to see what alternator is currently fitted. The type fitted can change due to availablity when the car was made, or the alternator may have been replaced previously.

Thanks for the input for the life of me cant seem to get ePer to recognise my VIN number ?

Regards
Mike

Thanks for all your input guys, Just an update. I took the car to a reputable auto electrics guy and he seems to feel the fuse box is to blame. He did some jiggery pokery with the relays and cleaned up the connections but apparently the alternator and battery etc all ok.

So for those with problems, worth a check of the fuse box.

Will let you all know in a few days if this has sorted it out

Regards
Mike
