obvious choice is the Alfa 1750 TBi engine

Absolutely no way that the bravo's gearbox will be able to handle the torque of that engine. I'd just use the same engine and not risk any bad surprises that might come with buying a different engine. It's not as simple as plug and play at all.

I think playing time is over. Just go for the 1.4 t-jet again.
If you like adventure, thans get a 1750 tbi, button like already mentioned, good luck with the gearbox.

Geuzendam in the Netherlands (Almelo) do have a lot of Fiat/Alfa engines on stock.

The astra and corsa vxr have the same M32 gearbox as my bravo, thats my i thought of it

Problem with other engines is its ECU communication with body ECU of the car, and adaptation to car is very expensive.
For older cars from 90s thats no problem.
Dismantle engine and see what exactly is damaged.
If you buy used engine from non-trusted seller you dont know what you bought

It might use the same gearbox but the position might be different: you might need different drive-shafts.
Also if you change to a different engine, you will need the ECU, body computer, maybe ABS unit..etc.. a lot of additional costs and might still have problems with the electric steering, airbags ..and so on.

Stick with the T-jet, spend a bit more to make sure you get a good engine, after that it's basically plug-n-play.
Bonus if you get one with turbo/alternator/starter/clutch/sensors attached!!!!

thinking about just selling spares and repairs, or breaking it myself

I can't see how wrong detonation results in bent valves. Bent piston yes, but only the valves? how?
(This sound like a timing problem:confused:)

T-jet is fire engine, so pistons cant hit valves, even if cambelt snap. So its to high revs. Check piston rods and crankshaft bearings

Old 8V FIRE yes, but 1.4 16v is an interference engine.
