Hi,

before two days, I saw message "Change motor oil" which suprised me a little bit. My car mechanic changed oil on 188.000 km on computer board (CB) and now it is 195.000 km (total 7.000 km passed). I thought that service schedule for oil change was about cca 10.000 km..

It would be of great help if someone could help me answer these questions:

- when car mechanic changes oil for example on 180.000 km on CB, should he make same kind of reset on CB or that part goes autmatically?

- I couldn't find oil change interval for my Fiat Bravo 2007 1.9JTDm in Manual, can someone tell me where to find it?

Thanks!
Adi

More than likely he just didn't reset the computer so as far as the car is concerned it hasn't had an oil change even though it has. Can always change the oil again and then when he resets the cars computer it will be synced together.

Hi Rigby,

thank you for prompt reply!

How exactly can I reset CB when oil is changed?

Another very importan question for me: I couldn't find oil change interval for my Fiat Bravo 2007 1.9JTDm in Manual, can someone tell me where to find it?

Thanks,
Adi

You cannot reset the onboard computer by yourself it's has to be done by a mechanic also the service interval for diesel is 30,000 km.It advisable to change oil every 15 to 20,000 km due to the turbine it will last longer and oil with oil filter is quite cheap.you can check the service interval by pressing mode right on the right it is between light up and down on the right side of the radio holding it for a few seconds and then you can go into settings and under settings you have servicing and there you can check the last service interval

Hi carlorff,

thank you very much for helpful reply.

Unfortunately, under Mode button I have find many options like Belt buzzer, Passinger bag etc BUT I can't find Setting section? What am I doing wrong and why can't I access Servicing part even through I looked everything in detail..

Thanks,
Adi

If you've got a DPF then you MUST change the oil again and reset the oil degradetion index at the same time to that its all linked up.

Failure to do this will result in the DPF failing the regen and a world of pain both with hassle and the finances of having to replace the DPF.

In extreme circumstances it can also lead to the oil levels increasing and engine run away!!

This is unfortunately what happens when the back street garages don't do the job properly (n)

Just for ref also, service reminder and oil degradtion index (and change warning) are 2 different functions that are reset desperately.

Hi MEP,

thank you very much for your reply!

As I heard before, Fiat Bravo produced in 2007 year (like mine) don't have DPF? Just to be sure, can you tell me how can I found does MY car has DPF, does it have to be checked exclusively by car mechanic?

It may have a DPF fitted if it was selected as an option as new (on the Punto it was an option for example, and may have been on the Bravo in your country), have you owned the car from new? If one is fitted then the DPF warning light should illuminate for test with the other lights when the ignition is switched on.

My understanding is that if it was an oil degradtion index counter, and associated warning like you're getting, then it will have a DPF.

Hi Adi

I made a video for you, I hope it helps.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awuuVoSf1tk

Hi carlorff,

many thanks for sharing video, I really appreciate.

In order to explain it easier, I have also posted video which shows how my screen looks and what I see in my car. Perhaps I am missing this option or I am simply doing it wrong, not sure..

Thanks for express reply.

I have searched through google images with keyword "fiat DPF warning light" and I found this (universal) signal image

http://www.sinspeed.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/vw-dpf-warning-light.jpg

for which I 90% sure that I don't have in my car when the ignition is switched on (key position MAR). I will check it (just to be sure) when I get in my car but I am pretty sure I don't have it.

Adi

One more important questions for me:

- In case I don't succeed to find Servicing under Menu (as shown on video), do I have any other alternatives like connecting to car diagnostic software via OBD II cable and then to change interval to appropriate value?

- How does the car figure the correct interval to indicate? Is it based on some sort of direct measurement of the oil life remaining, or is it extrapolated from other, indirect measures?

At 4 sec into the video, 2nd light up from the bottom on the right hand section of the dash, this is the DPF light, and its on and then goes off, so it would appear that you do have a DPF fitted.

You'll need to connect comparable diagnostic equipment to reset the oil degradtion index.

The car then calculates the rate of its degradtion after this point based upon the type of journeys completed, and the number of completed, and partly completed DPF regenerations completed after its reset, and when it meets a set value this is when it triggers the warning saying that the oil needs to be changed again. Its for this reason some may go only 10K miles between this warning and another 20k miles, depending upon if its a lot of long distance or city driving that the car does for example.

I hope this helps.

What if you turn on the engine, wait for the system to initialize, so no more messages of low temperatures, blown light bulbs etc, and hold down the menu button for 5-10 seconds seconds...report back

That won't do anything. Fiat have designed the system properly so it can't be bypassed, resulting on costly damage, by those not servicing the car properly.

Dear Speed Reader of the Year!

Please do read our conversations a little bit slower, so you will see what the conversation is all about. It is not about resetting the counter by us, but how to check the miles/ kilometers until next service. The conversation has evolved into something else.

It seems you are right because this is what I found in manual

with no matter that simbol bellow is pretty universal for DPF

It seems I will have to change oil immediately. Thank you very much for useful advice and warning.

I will do that and let you know the result very soon.

Ok, I understand it better now. Based on all information provided in previous posts, this is the conclusion:

1. Fact that I have total 7.000 km passed since I have changed oil and made big service on car, doesn't mean I don't have to change oil right away, as car computer states.

2. Since I have DPF, I will have to change oil right away and ask my car mechanic to reset the oil degradetion index.

3. After that, if it happens that for example in futurw, I get the same message after 4.000 km, I will again have to follow instructions from car computer and change oil right away?
