General Change engine oil message after 7.000 kilometers passed with my new Fiat Bravo?

General Change engine oil message after 7.000 kilometers passed with my new Fiat Bravo?

Ok, I understand it better now. Based on all information provided in previous posts, this is the conclusion:

1. Fact that I have total 7.000 km passed since I have changed oil and made big service on car, doesn't mean I don't have to change oil right away, as car computer states.

2. Since I have DPF, I will have to change oil right away and ask my car mechanic to reset the oil degradetion index.

3. After that, if it happens that for example in futurw, I get the same message after 4.000 km, I will again have to follow instructions from car computer and change oil right away?

Correct to all three, but in extreme cases you should still be getting at least 16000km per oil change (10k miles) with normal use. My Bravo when I first got it went 21k miles before telling me it wanted an oil change for example.

Hi MEP,

thanks again for very useful advices. However, I do have one questions that is going through my head. As you have mention, even in extreme cases (like hard city drive etc) I should still be getting at least 16000km per oil change (10k miles)..

I am confused why my car computer has calculated that oil has to be changed on only 7.000 km passed? I didn't have extreme driving conitions, on scale from 1 to 10, I would say they were on level 6.

Because its very unlikely it was reset when it was last changed, so it probably thinks its the same oil from 25k/km ago for example.

Hi,

here is little update: I have been at my car mechanic and explained him situation in detail. He suggessted that it is best to connect to diagnostic software via OBD II cable and to see condition. He showed me the one very important detail that user MEP warned me about and that was the fact that my previous car mechanic didn't make reset in sofware when he changed oil so car computer only still "thinks" that oil hasn't been changed.

So, he made necessary reset so change oil message isn't showing any more. He recommended me to change oil on 12.000 km since I have a lot of city drive.

I told him I am warned about possible issues with DPF, he told me there is no reason to worry and (just in case) if I notice something suspicious on dashboard in next three days, to contact him.

I hope this topic will be of help somebody else in same situation, like me.

BR,
Adi
