Shaft in turbo is nackered :/
Didn't know about noise, I will see if it still occurs with a new turbo!

£425 for reconditioning the turbo :'(
Get it back Monday though.
Anyone any more luck with fixing the noise?

My Bravo tjet 150hp petrol has had the exact same fluttering boost issue. Going to have a look tomorrow and check if it could be a similar wastegate problem. Think the setup is different though and actuator in different place. If I disconnect the silicone hose from the boost valve to the actuator do I need to block the pipes or just leave them open?

Well I don't catch a break! :(
reconditioned turbo installed, did a flow check for a few secs instead of 1 min as flow was great.
Took it out for a spin and there's no power...... well no power until around 2k rpm were as it was set up to be 1.2k rpm when remapped.

However, there's no dump valve noise so far!
So once I get power sorted I can confirm if this noise may be a sign turbo is on its way out! :(

I may have some bad news for those with similar problems.
Talking to a head engineer from the turbo company, the problem I was having is due to over spinning/spooling.
It may mean that your turbo is on it's way out.......

Sorry chaps for not getting back sooner. Updated email address and got no notifications.
Anyways, it was May this year when I did that adjustment on my turbo and the car has been impeccable ever since! No juddering at low rpm.

To answer some of the queries, even if the screw shows a little height, which mine did, give it a full turn or 2 upwards.

If the turbo has been off dont forget to plug the actuator/pierburg pipe back in otherwise you wont get power early on.

It's a doddle to get the turbo off and if you need to replace it you only need the internal part of the turbo not the housing. There was a guy on eBay selling these for around 200 quid. He was from poland and they were british made. I will try find the link and post up.

shop name PROAUTO EU.

Alternatively you can try cleaning the waste gate area. Not sure what with but I was reading that this is a known issue experienced by some VW Passat owners also.

Hiya.
The problem I found getting at the screw from the left side of the turbo(as your looking from the front of the car) is the actuator rod was getting in the way.
If you can loosen the actuator and rod you may be able to get at the screw.
If not yes it's heat shields, oil pipe (which also bolts to the block) and a couple of bolts.
Give yourself an afternoon or morning to do it. It will give you great satisfaction when you sort out the problem(y)
