Hi my first post, i have been toying with the idea of buying a 2005 leon FR for a few weeks now but put off by a few things like the leaky door seals, i have just came across the Bravo multjet 150 sport which i have been reading about they both have similar performance and fuel economy.

What im asking is what niggly problems does the multijets have a need to be aware of and why do u prefer these over the Leon ???

Thanks, great forum
Dave

I was seriously considering a Leon (not FR, the 1,6 Turbo) before buying my Bravo. I like the looks and it has some pretty good engines. The interior is so bad however, that they lost me on the moment. It's so cheap and ugly that it reminded me of my 1982 Mitsubishi Colt...

What the 150bhp diesel engines like are they reliable no head gasket issues ?

The only engine relating issue on the 150 mjet is EGR valve, other than that, the engine is pretty reliable.
Never drove a Leon, so cant really do a direct comparison, but with the same money, you should able to pick up a newer Bravo.

Re: Leon 1.9 tdi fr or multijet

The previous Bravo was the one made from 1996 - 2001, which was 3 door only. The ones that got launched in June/July 2007 are 5 door only and except for a couple of equipment changes, havn't altered at all since 2007.

Theyre meant to be doing a facelift for it this year, but it looks like being hardly noticeable.

The only issues affecting it are:

*Front suspension drop links (can affect all model Bravos), which can wear & cause clunking noises - these have pretty much all been replaced under warranty.

*Stiff/heavy gear change (6 speed gearbox on diesels) - usually caused by linkage cables & repaired under warranty.

*EGR valve (mostly 150bhp diesels) - EGR can clog up & cause poor performance. Easily cleaned or replaced. Not expensive. Some replaced under warranty.

*Diesel Particulate Filter (2.0 & 1.6 diesels only) - DPF can cause problems if car is used solely in stop start traffic. Problem affects most manufacturers who fit DPF's, including VW, Renault & Audi.

Thats pretty much the only main problems reported. For the money the Bravo seems very well built & any model you buy from 2007 to present day will be more or less the same in terms of spec as no major changes have taken place since launch.

Seems a bit odd them stop making them and then intoducing them again, i remember reading about a stilo been introduced did this replace them and didnt sell well so they brought them back or something, sorry for doing your head in :bang: im just a bit nosey :D

It was just a name I suppose. The original Bravo/a was replaced by the slow selling Stilo. They just brought the name back for the Bravo. By the way, depending on budget you may be able to pick up a 2.0 Multijet, which are 165BHP as oppose to the 150 of the 1.9.

I quite liked the Leon FR, but today I found out why I could not have loved one.

What is with that acre of plain boring plastic in the middle of the dash? Did they run out of ideas? It ruins a otherwise nice looking car.

The Bravo/a built between 96 and 2001 are totally different to the 2007- Bravo. The Stilo wasn't as well accepted as the Bravo and Brava which came before it so Fiat brought back the previous name when they replaced the Stilo. They also chose to take some styling cues with the rear ring lights and curves.

Regarding the Leon i prefer the look of the mk1, the mk2 has a few extras as modern goes but to get the model i would go for is out my price range.

Thanks for them fine pics my friend, that stilo look nice and curvy mind u, but it has to be a 5 door else my lass will not be to happy.

thats a nice stilo rob? whos is that? :p

i cant fault my bravo tbh... it is quite classy to look at inside and out (although some of the interior trim is getting scratched by clumsy passengers :bang:)

i get 52mpg average (did 1000 miles the last 5 days and used £100 if not a bit less in fuel) :)

Depending on what a get from my landrover my budget will be around £7000 to £7500 max

Thats good fuel econ very similar to the leon FR 1.9 TDI except you dont get your feet wet in the bravo :D scraches i hate em, every mark inside and out on my landrover are from other people, passengers of other cars not giving a crap when they get in the car and banging paintwork and the jealous assholes who scrach for fun , and passengers with rings on there fingers, hate em.:worship:

Ok ive worked for Fiat and own a 150 mjet, i now work for Volkswagen.

I still have and will continue to own my Bravo Mjet.
If i compare the two TDi's/Multijets then for certain the TDi's have more problems than a Mjet, alot of EML and turbo problems, and in fact the 150 had a problem where the engines would completely fail!. Id rather have a EGR niggle ( havent had it yet ) than a worry that my engine would seize up:)

Mjets are used in Alfa Romeo's, Saabs (Tid) and Vauxhall (CDTi) so there proven and the JTD engine was the first common railed diesel engine.

I would take VW/seat/Audi's build quality (not the materials used or the feel - their just put together nicely and a feeling that it wasnt rushed).

For looks, value for money and flair Fiat wins hands down.. badge snobbery thats all it is(n)

Like a couple of other guys have said, it wasn't so much a continuation of the old model, it was just that the old Bravo/Brava (particularly the Bravo) was held in high regard by the public. The Stilo, which was aimed at the Golf didn't cut it with the public, so Fiat decided to go back to the Bravo name & go with similar curvy styling as used on the old Bravo, rather than the square Germanic look of the Stilo.

Depending on what a get from my landrover my budget will be around £7000 to £7500 max

For that money, you'd be looking at a 1.9 150 Multijet Sport with around 50,000 miles on it, depending on age. You could get a lower mileage 150 Multijet if you went for the Dynamic model, but this won't be quite as visually distinctive.

but then if your getting the 150 engine whats the difference
I would like the multijet sport as it has more gadgets is there other differences to the exteria like body kit or different bumpers or anything than non sport models ?
