Hi guys just about to take my car into fiat its just past its 2nd service and been told everything was fine on my car and my exhaust has sounded like this for the past year but i have been told by a friend that my exhaust seems like it has gone.

so i have uploaded the noise onto the net to see if you can help me and to see if he is correct.

it can be heard on the following link
http://www.supload.com/listen?s=3jZGul

please tell me he is right so i can get fiat to fix my car just im going through fuel like there is no tomorrow a full tank will only give me at most 250 miles.

yes, this sounds like a hole. the most likely suspect is if the car has a flexi joint, as these can go. happened on my stilo a few years back, and was kinda wondering if the bravo would suffer the same to.

only about £25 to buy then whatever cost for welding it in (i called in a favour)

check you exhaust and look for this part (usually near the front)

and if it looks like this

my stilo thread here

thanks Big Black Stilo and MarkRacoon for your quick reply. well im sorry to burst the bubble big black stilo but looks like the bravo has the same fait as the stilo.

well if you want to know what happened well first let me tell you how i feel maybe this might help :bang: i feel like i have broken a leg and went to the doctors and been told i am fine nothing wrong with me.

well then took my car to fiat they told me there is nothing wrong with the exhaust. the problem is i know there is something wrong my car sounds like a bloody 50cc 2 stroke motorbike. Well after they told me I then took it to kwickfit again been told there is nothing wrong with it yet ive spoken to 3 different people who have had cars for 30 years plus and all have said its knackered.

so my question is ! Am i hitting a brick wall and accept that there is nothing wrong with my car with a mpg of 24-25. It seems to love the petrol at the moment or am i right in thinking that i have a problem with the car and accept my dealer and kwickfit are just total b****rds and dont have a clue. sorry about the bad language but im just totally p***ed off.

I think what you need is someone reliable to take a look at it, possibly someone off here could look at it, however im not near your location (im NW uk). Kwik fit and the like maybe dismissing it because the car is so new. When I had my stilo, kwik fit confimed that the flexi joint was buggered, but they could only get an exhaust from fiat as no-one was making cheap alternatives at that point as the stilo was still a new car.

The only reason I think the exhaust maybe being dismissed is if the flexi joint has gone like my photo, is that for some reason its gone on the upper side against the car floorpan and cant be easily seen, and they are putting it down to the fact that exhaust systems on fiats can sound blow-y because they contain drain holes (usually near one of the boxes) to get rid of excess condensed water.

The sound file you have posted (bear in mind I only listened to it on laptop speakers) sounds raspy as though there is a hole in it, bigger than the holes used for draining. Also your low mpg indicates that it is an exhuast problem as a hole in the exhaust effects the exhaust back pressure and usually moves the power further up the rev range, making you floor it more, dropping the MPG. Also you find it maybe running rich (hence the soot in my photos)

Thank big black stilo, I totally agree that some fiats do sound blow-y but I have been and drove other fiat bravos including this model as my friend owns one. None of them sound like this yet i just dont think im going to get any where. once i have got dressed i will have alook under the car and see if i can find the problem. yes im a lazy sod mid day still in bed but thats what you get when ya have a drink all through the night and dont tell me lads that you have not done this your self lol. You see my car is making me a alcoholic LOL.

LMFAO, well looked under the car. found a nice hole with soot god knows how kwick fit or my dealer did not find it looks like my local dealer and kwickfit are just total b****rds and dont have a clue. the flex joint looks fine infact still looks new. Believe it or not its my middle silencer thats gone.

started car up revved put my hand on the hole and hey presto air coming through the silencer now taking the car to a total different dealer that my friend totally sticks by.

gonna take it there when i have some money to put petrol in the car. i will keep you updated once it has been in.

so now the dealer will need to fix my exhaust, knocking noise on suspension, needs new rear brakes, creaking noise from stearing wheel, fix electrical for my rear brake lights and one inner light on the car dash, heater fan which has gone, oil smell, oil burning 1L to every 1000 miles ow and finally my service intervil clock on dash was not reset when it was serviced.

yea there gonna like me once im finished with them LOL

Good to hear that you finally found the leak/hole... crazy that they didnt find it in the first place when two "non-experts" could by listening to a recording over the internet.... w4nk3rs ;)

omg thats a lot of stuff needs fixing... i cross myfingers for you mate.

yea once again mark thanks for your help. Now i remember why i joined up to fiat forums because everyone sticks togeather and thats how a community should be.

I will let you know how it goes with the dealers when i decided to get the car fix which will be next week when i get paid just can aford to put petrol in the car at the moment when its only doing 24mpg.

Really good to see the Forum work in this way. Restores your faith!
