The misspelling is intentional: one of Bambi's idiot cousins has just decided to try it's luck against 1.3 tonnes of Bravo

Came over a motorway bridge about 5 mins from home and just as I got over the crest (NSL road, doing about 50 at the time) this deer decided to run out 20 or 30 yeards ahead. I managed to get the car down to about 25mph (luckily the snow has pretty much gone from the roads now) and the deer managed to turn round and start to get out of the way, but the offside corner of the car still caught it.

Bloody stupid creature knocked itself out and broke a leg, me and another bloke stopped with it and I rang the RSPCA; after about 10 mins it came round and scarpered - surprisingly quickly given that one of its back legs didn't look to be taking any weight - before the RSPCA arrived. We had a look for it but no luck.

It's cracked the headlamp unit and broken it off its mountings, broken the bumper off its mountings at the offside end, and knocked the foglight trim off. Being a company car it'll get fixed for nowt, but this means running a hire car for the next few days, and the last 3 times I've had a company hire car it's been one of those godawful Astra heaps with an asthmatic 1.4-litre to drag it along :yuck:

Am i the only one thinking Wheel brace.... bludgen.... and throw in the car boot
No lol

(Hear the one about the bow legged deer? She said she wasn't doing THAT again for 2 Bucks :p)

Glad you are ok,

I must say I don't go a bundle of your method to see if Bambi bounces :D :D

Now Andy I hear that it's illegal to take a deer that you clobbered for the freezer,

however ;) if you should find one that's been clobbered....... ;)

Well it's rump would have been pre-tenderised at any rate ;)

The RSPCA lass who came out said that she's been out a few times to similar incidents only to find that the police have got there 1st and already scarpered with the venison!

Didn't really fancy filling my boot with muddy, soggy, stinking, dead wildlife though - I suspect that, even with a sizeable wheelbrace, seeing off something as big as a deer would be a long and gruesome process :dead:

Reminds me of a joke I heard:

A woman asked for a 'DEER CROSSING' warning sign to be moved because it was dangerous.
"Too many deer are being killed on the crossing where it is" she said.

I believe the cool thing to do would be tying it on the bonnet like those idiot hunters do! That would make a hell of a picture...

While the Bravo's being fixed I've been provided with a hire car - however, much to my surprise, it's not the usual horrendous 1.4 Astra (which is the worst car in the world, ever - underpowered, uncomfortable, badly made and feels like it was built for 79p).

Nope, as luck would have it I'm running around in an Octavia estate, which despite being the base model with the old 105bhp 1.9 TDi motor has turned out to be a pretty decent drive. Not as good as the Bravo for performance or toys but it's comfy and the boot is massive - why oh why didn't Fiat make a Bravo estate?!

Woohoo, it's back! :D

Can't tell how good a job they've done as it was raining when they delivered it; there had been some crazing to the paint on the bumper but the guy claims that they've "polished it out"?! ... I have my doubts, but at least it's all fitted back together properly with a new headlight. Will have to give it a good wash on a dry day, then have a proper look at it when it's clean and dry.

In any case, although the Octavia was pretty good as hire cars go it's great to have my Bravo back - it's faster, comfier and prettier, and it's surprising how much you miss little luxuries like bluetooth, USB port, cruise control, heated seats etc. Will miss the Octavia's cavernous boot mind.

Best bit is that after a week or so of 105bhp from a fairly unrefined old VAG engine, the Bravo feels like a very smooth rocket! (y)
