How reliable is your bravo
Im testing TJET V MJET ( REMEMBER MY THREAD:D )

I cant recall a MJET ever being on the back of a recovery truck

Let us know your problem and what caused it and whether it was a TJET or MJET 120/150.

1.4 90 Actives/ active sports more than welcome(y)

Well I have a tjet 150 and it's not broken down yet.

I did have the coolant leak but it was sorted pretty quickly, and also get the misty lights when washing the car.

Surprisingly, there don't seem to be many electrical gremlins around, considering the number of gadgets fitted to even the more basic Bravos.

The DPF issue would put me off the mjet as I do a lot of urban runs - if they sort this out, I might consider trying a diesel next time.

Remember that Bravo's are still fairly new cars, so you never know, they could all start breaking soon.

Although, I hope not.

all what i disike about this car is the annoying sounds that i hear inside the cabin.. sounds coming from the roof..others coming from the passenger's seat.. from the back !!!!!! I HATE THESE SOUNDS .. wish i could sort them out during my next service (10,000 km)

So, how many T-Jets have you seen on a recovery truck, being towed or with the bonnet up, AA, RAC etc in attendance?

I have had mine - T-Jet 150 Active - for 6 months. That's 6 months of very happy motoring!

Hi charnwood fox.. i can say more petrol bravos as i worked for fiat for 18months in the service department.
Many issues were engine light on, misfires, non start and coolant problems.

A few 1.6 mjets for DPF problems, however vehicle is still driveable without causing more damage.

BTW grande puntos were the worst(y) of the lot.

So i would say more petrol bravos on that basis.

Well been out for 2 and a half years now...

Looks like the MJET is mechanically better ( that comment will cause arguments :yum:)

You bet it will :) So, could you define "looks like"? Looks to who? Certainly doesn't look so to me. I've been here for about a year and I am absolutely certain there are more MJet problem related topics than Tjet. Particles filter, GSR valve (or whatever it is called - I don't know it cause I don't have it, meaning it will never break), cold starting issues (last MJet with this issue being yours) , all of them being in the MJet camp. Tjets does not have any of these, so even that's enough to consider it more reliable. Next week I will spend some time and will count the Mjet/Tjet problem-related topics to end this argument once and for all... :) Although I am pretty sure what the result will be, as I open this forum every day and I have really good idea how often I see Mjet and Tjet problems-related topics.

Hi Lyubohar,

Firstly i would like you to know the cold starting issues that i have had earlier in fact, wasnt because it would NOT start( unlike TJETS - checked older posts) but was a tapping( not any more and could of been caused by the person driving it before), not hindering its driveability ( a feature of the car as said my fiat techinicans, unlike TJETS that misfire(checked posts -also a misfiring engine can damage other components if driven) and TJETS that lose coolant ( you cant drive a car losing coolant.. overheating problems).
As to your EGR - exhaust gas recirculation valve... mine hasnt failed and posts that express their concerns to EGR problems only experience a loss of power but funnily enough are ABLE to drive there M-Jet to the dealer.. i would also like to note the vast majority of EGR cases are due to alot of town/slow driving which clogs it up.
The DPF.. diesel particulate filter is a piece of equipment that reduces CO2 emissions so my reply to that is.. its environmently friendly... its a feature of a diesel that if it does go wrong will NOT hamper its drive to the dealer and you will still be capable of over 60MPH ( 100KM/PH) unlike T-JETS that FAIL to start all together leaving you stranded and a engine rebuild already on a T-JET was also noted in a thread.
You will find post relating to M-Jet problems mostly due to features of a diesel like DPF, EGR, Selection of gears ( that STILL select- its the feature of a diesel as its more of a argiculturial design ).

I would also like to note that the FASTEST bravo on offer is indeed.... a MULTIJET:D which if it does go wrong... WILL get you to your destination because it will always START:devil:

Thanks

Don't really want to read about your car's problems. Fact is - diesels have much more stuff that can break. Period. I just gave a couple of examples of things petrols don't have (so they never break)...Apart from these parts most of the remaining stuff is more or less the same. So diesels can only be less reliable, not more. Not to mention the extreme conditions under witch diesel engines work.

I agree 2.0 may be faster than the Tjet (not officially though), at least until/if bigger petrol is introduced. But then again, even my small Tjet is always faster than your Mjet. Cheers :)

P.S. And you don't really need to use "Quote" when you Reply right under my post.

I have to disagree:(
Diesels are 'Known' to be more reliable, in fact, they have been known to outlive petrol units.
As for your comment on parts.. a diesel engine has NO spark thus no spark plugs, HT leads, distributors, coil packs, etc.

Theres more posts about TJETS not starting/Overheating than petty comments about M-Jets known EGR/DPF gremlins that dont hamper its driveabilty.
Servicing is also cheaper in the long run.
Your comments do not justify anything:p

OH.. maybe so its faster to 60 than mine by 0.8 sec ( not if i do a remap - which i wont because its not standard thus not fair ) but mine is capable of 62MPG and emit less Co2, cheaper road tax, and would sell for more than your 'little' T-jet:D.

P.S i can decide to quote... if i want to

...and TJETS that lose coolant ( you cant drive a car losing coolant.. overheating problems)...

I beg to differ!

My car has had two separate coolant leaks that have been ongoing since I bought the car new back in May 2008. So thats what...18 months. By you're reckoning I havent driven my car in all that time...however I have managed to wrack up over 20,000 miles...with my coolant problems!

So technically its not really a problem as such, the car is still driveable...its just that frequent checks need to be done to make sure there is coolant in the tank. It certainly hasnt stopped me driving it in any way.

Just thought I'd throw that out there!

Can I also ask...if you worked for Fiat for 18 months...what were the "coolant problems" that you saw so many T-Jets come in for?

I agree diesels usually outlive petrol units, but that doesn't mean they don't break and cost you a fortune in the process. Modern diesels are much more complex and sophisticated than petrols; it's just the only way for engineers to make an engine, meant for tractors, run in a car. :D

Petrols are more or less unchanged since decades. The technology is much simpler, which means reliability. It's also cleaner, and of course it's faster, but that's another subject...

I have to check about all these "Tjet not starting/overheating" posts, as somehow I must have missed them...

Oooh a petrol vs diesel thread.

Sorry petrol heads but the spark engine is stuck in a rutt. It hasn't really changed for decades and that's why diesels have overtook you in the development stakes.

Diesels now are quieter (under normal operating conditions), more fuel efficient, and more reliable.

Multiair brings a long needed improvement for the petrols, but remember that can be used on diesel engines too :p

You can ask me and i did work for fiat for 18 months.. from what i recall the majority of problem were due to leaks from hoses/connections.
I also recall water pumps leakages and the worst of the lot a heater matrix was leaking.

As to your reply.. i would strongly recommend you do not drive your vehicle around if it has a coolant loss as the pressure that it could produce may damage other components. DO NOT rely on your temperature gauge. If the problem would be a water pump and not pumping water around then you would be oblivious to the problem until its too late.
