Hello people!! I am a new member as you can see. I am living in Mexico City(and I am proudly mexican hehe) but I was doing some research on the net for information about FIATs and I know it is one of the oldest car makers (if not the oldest), but here in Mexico FIAT is a bit of a new comer. They came in the 60's and they left for reasons unknown. At least I do not know them, so they finally came back on 2005-6 not sure.
So fast forward to the real thing... I am 21 and I am an airline pilot; I have saved money to buy my very first own car and I was looking at the Mustang GT (yeeep american...), the Seat Leon FR and Cupra, and finally the FIAT Bravo (which I think the car is FFFFBloody sexy as you would say haha) but there isn't much of comparisons/reviews here in america for that car. I read one review and they said that the steering wheel was not exactly aligned with the drivers seat and it was just a BIT tilted to the upper right corner. That when driving you would not notice but, is this true?

Last question... Mexico is 7,316 feet above mean sea level. (~2,300m MSL) and small engine cars have a real hard time to accelerate fast. Im not looking for a Ferrari, but for a car that accelerate decently on highways to pass other cars. Is the 1.4L 150bhp petrol engine enough? That's the only version they are selling here. Maybe some people who lived/drove in switzerland or some high places might know.
Theres no test drive in mexico for FIAT cars, i dont know why.
Thank you very much

greetings

Hi zombiepilot (I hope you don't introduce yourself that way to your passengers in-flight!), and welcome to FF.

Well I'm hardly qualified to answer your q's - my car is right-hand-drive (no alignment issues that I've seen), diesel and living in the south of England, hardly high altitude. Sorry about that. But wanted to say welcome anyway :)

Hi mate, and welcome! It's great how many countries are now represented in this forum :)

First of all, I think the cars you are comparing are not in the same class. Personally I have this thing with American muscle cars and would always chose the Mustang :D Then the Cupra is much faster than the Bravo (not sure about the FR version) and costs twice as much, at least where I live.

Then you are right the Bravo is damn sexy. I have a white Tjet150 with sunroof and two-tone alloys, and I still can't believe how many girl's looks the car gets. Girls usually don't notice cars, so it must be really sexy, as you say :)

On your questions - the car accelerates pretty well for me. I can easily overtake even on sixth gear and from 120-130 km/h. As for the driving position - I am two meters high and I find my car very comfortable.

The cons for me is the very stiff ride (although compared to the other cars you mentioned it should be fine) and the bad consumption. But I can live with that as the car is real fun to drive. Oh, and you'll love the exhaust sound :slayer:

you've not driven an Alfa then!

With the turbo it shouldn't have too much trouble. I hardly noticed any drop in performance going over the 2800m Gt Gotthard pass. I'd imagine the petrol would be similar.

Build quality is typically good. I would ignore the wheel alignment problem - most likely they have crashed that test car and knocked its tracking out. Easily fixed.

Isn't Turin high up anyway?

Edit: stupid me putting that up without any research, sorry. Here are the figures:

Mexico City: 2,240 m (7,349 ft)
Turin: 240 m (787 ft)

Massively out then.

I'm not really sure where I was going with this as the Bravo is built near Rome anyway.

BBS, I think you might have trouble getting your Bravo to the highest point in England, and thats nothing compared to Mexico City.

my post just highlighted the highest point i have had the bravo!

I have been up Scafell though. and Helvellyn.

and i doubt the bravo would get up there though. Imagine going over striding edge!

Best bet will be to take a Bravo for a test drive.

Do you need 5 doors, reasonable fuel economy and a fairly cheap car to run?

If yes then Bravo, if no then Mustang.

From Wikipedia again:

The federal and local governments have implemented numerous plans to alleviate the problem of air pollution, including the constant monitoring and reporting of environmental conditions, such as ozone and nitrogen oxides.[42] If the levels of these two pollutants reach critical levels, contingency actions are implemented which may include closing factories, changing school hours, and extending the A day without a car program to two days of the week.[42] To control air pollution, the government has instituted industrial technology improvements, a strict biannual vehicle emission inspection and the reformulation of gasoline and diesel fuels.[42] Data from the city's 36 air-quality monitoring stations show lead levels down 95 percent since 1990, while sulfur dioxide has fallen 86 percent, carbon monoxide 74 percent, and peak ozone levels 57 percent since 1991.[42]

If you have to go without the car for two days a week, go for the mustang, you'll miss it less than the Bravo

Just answer you question on LHD, i am Gibraltar, and the position of the steering wheel is fine, its fully adjustable, (in,out,up and down) and regards to alignment, i haven't even noticed it, think i might check later, but is pretty comfortable.

Some of the UK guys have probs with not enough leg support, but with LHD there is a footrest, so this makes up for it.

As for altitude, no idea, my parking space is just under sea level. but it does get Hot, and this hasn't affected performance noticeably.

Anyway my opinion, its a bit different to what everyone else gets around here, vw golfs, honda civics, and the ford focus, and i give it the (y)
