Hi im having trouble with my Fiat Bravo HGT, for some reason when im driving along the engine will completly cut out without me realising, but when i start the car back up a yellow key with code on it will appear on my dashboard, but if i turn the car off and try again the key will dissapear, any ideas?

This sounds like the immobiliser is cutting in, need one of the 'experts' here to have a think as havent heard of it cutting in mid drive before, have a read through:

https://www.fiatforum.com/bravo-brava/64160-keys-question.html

The light that comes on means there is a problem with the key code system which controls the immobiliser etc.

Do you have your red key?

Also age etc of the HGT. 147 or 155?

There are ways around the immobiliser which dont involve FIAT bending you over the counter, so read that thread and post a bit more info back and someone will give you some more advise.

Welcome to the forum :D

hi yes i have the red key, and two blue ones, its the 155 model on a w plate (2000) and for some reason it only seems to cut out whilst I'm braking but it may just be coincidence,

if you're using the red key when that happens, that is the reason.

if you're using a blue key when that happens, it is usually an immob fault or flat battery.

in your case the car cuts out when breaking. that sounds very much like the immob is cutting power to the fuel pump. that is happening because when you break you are causing a connection somewhere in the immob circuit to break. this is often due to a loose connector somewhere (aerial on ignition barrel, code box on interior fusebox).

you could hotwire the fuel pump direct to the ignition to stop this happening, but it would be better if you could find the bad connection and fix it.

ok mate thanks for that, ill try and find the bad connection and sort it out, ill let u know the outcome

hi again just thought id ask but i dont have a battery in my key as it keeps locking and unlocking by car without me touching it, that wouldent be the reason the key light comes on would it?

the immob is completely seperate to the central locking and alarm so that cant have anything to do with it. it sounds like the switch on the key is sticking (same as mountainmachine).

if you take the key apart you can check the switch to see if there is any obvious reason why its sticking.

hi i checked my fusebox for some obvious signs of a loose connection, but couldent find anything, but as for the looking at the aerial on ignition barrel, is that an easy job to do? or is it pretty complex as i dont want to pull it apart and not be able to put it together again, also how do i get to it to check?

its easy. you need to remove the plastic shroud first. the aerial is around the ignition switch, check the connenctor on it.

check that the connections on the main relay in the engine bay are clean and secure. also check the connections of the fuse supplying that relay.
