hi im new to this forum but from reading it you all seem very helpful and full of knowledge so here go's!!! :)

i have a fiat bravo 1.6 and as im accelarating slightly usually the fuel injector light will flash on but as soon as i accelerate a little more or brake it go's out  ....usually this will result in a judder of the engine also.

and just lately im having this problem of when i slow down from a high speed to approach a roundabout my engine cuts out....whats strange is it only does it on the same stretch of road :(

and on top of that i have a half flashing brake warning light that comes on as and when it please's...this one i checked at a garage to see if my brakes were ok and they said they have still got half there life left in them so they guessed it may be an electrical problem.

any ideas lol????

first the brake light, check your fluid level, when the fluid gets low the light will come on sometimes (usually when going roung corners or braking hard).

on a 1.6 its always tempting to scream "injector failure!" (or coil failure), but in this case it does not sound like the injectors or coil pack are the problem. the main clue for me is the engine cutting out. when slowing down the injectors do not inject any fuel, so even if they were faulty this could not cause the engine to cut out. it is far more likely to be a wiring or sensor fault. i could guess at what the problem is, but without seeing the car that would not be wise or helpful in situations like this. it is better to get a diagnostic check done.

ok after looking around the brake fluid bit i came across a tiny black wire which looks like its come lose or something..im guessing its not ment to be like that

there will be 2 wires going to a connector on the lid on the brake fluid reservoid. both must be in place and secure. if yours is damaged beyond simple repair a scrapyard part would be an easy and cheap replacement.

or is this wire from something else?

it seems to be hanging loose from underneath the bottom of the brake fluid bracket....see im new to cars so not sure what im really looking for  the part im lookin at when looking in the manual to spot it looks a bit different and seems to be in some sort of a protective case not with a lid that can easily be open like say the windscreen wiper fluid part. that prob makes no sense whatsoever :(

Surely if the brake reservoir is low, there must be an underlying reason.
i.e. Pads/shoes worn out or a leak somewhere.

They dont as a rule empty out like that on their own. :)

very true, brake fluid loss its almost always due the slave cylinder leaking on these cars, its very common. i changed mine 3 months ago, it was less than a year old and started leaking. i bet i'll need to change it again this year.

ok so now the engine stalling is becoming worse!!!

it still stalls when slowing down from a high speed and today it also stalled whilst braking from about 30mph. i have also noticed that as i brake the rev counter seems to be jumping a bit. i think i should really get it checked out but do u think the problem would of been cause by the fuel injectors or something to do with the engine itself?

on top of this the exhaust also seems to be spluttering a bit when im idle so am really confused! the fiat dealer will cost about £50 for a full diagnosic test but thats just for the check....worth it or better to go to another garage that can deal with this sort of thing?

any help would be grateful a.s.a.p plz :)

diagnostic is definately the best thing to do, where you get it done depends on who you know. fiat dealers have the best equipment, but often they dont really know how to use it, and they wont even begin to look beyond using the machine. a diagnosis at a local independand garage 'should' include a full diagnosis to figure out the problem, including a compression test and emissions check ect if needs be.

do you think my exhaust may have anything to do with this....i have also noticed that it sounds very chokey lately and a few people have said it sound like my exhaust is going....could that be causing the over rev-ing?

 p.s i forgot to mention i only had my exhaust replaced at the end of august last year!!! would it be under warranty....it doesnt mention it on the receipt i have and i really cant remember that far back to weather they said it was or not

the new part of the exhaust would be under warranty for 1 year usually. a blow in the exhaust can cause a loss of back pressure (especially a leak before cat), and yes that can cause a high idle.

ok so i got some fuel injector cleaner and put it in my car 2 days ago.....and so far not a single shudder,no flashes of the fuel injector light,no stalling from high speeds and generally a more comfortable ride......could it of been that they just need a clean and was clogged up which was my problem.

well i had 2 good days of no problems so lets hope it continues to run well..fingers crossed :)

sounds like one or more injectors had deposits that were restricting the normal spray pattern of the fuel. if that is the case i would add 2 bottles of redex to quarter of a tank of super unleaded and give it a good hard thrash. treat it like a slut.

dam hope its not all going wrong......it stalled once last night but that was all :( other than that there is a few flashes of the fuel injector light but this time no judders to go with them, sort of comes on then go's pretty much a couple of seconds later. any ideas?

lambda sensor problems sometimes to go away temporarily when using redex. i would get a diagnostic check done to find out before you go spending any money.

Ok so after adding some fuel injector cleaning fluid a few months back the car has been running really well.

But i have just got my car back from its m.o.t and the injector problem has got 10 times worse!!! the light now comes on as soon as i start up the engine and stays on...during this the power is really poor and acelerating is very difficult.....do u think its time for a diagnostics check!!?? would it be best to take it to my local fiat dealer or just another garage which says it does diagnostics?

and how much will injectors needing to be replaced roughly set me back?
