can any one help,i have a 1999 brava TD100 that developed a miss and a puff of white smoke, its at the stage now where you cant drive it coz the smoke and it dies then picks up again,i have had the injectors tested and their ok,compression checked,ok,it seem to do it most upto 2000 rpm,any help would be great coz its doing my head in now and i dont like garages:bang:

hi mate
im in northumberland, yes the smoke is from the exhaust.the car starts fine and runs great when the miss isnt their,it went from a very small miss with a little smoke to a big miss and a lot of smoke in 2 weeks,if you rev the car to say 1500 and hold it their, after about 5 seconds the revs drop to tick over with the white smoke then it will go back to 1500 again,i should add the smoke is only their when the engine is missing

I was going to suggest that a seal might have gone in your turbo, but i am pretty sure the smoke is worse when you first start the car.

Is the injection light coming up on the dash or any other warning lights. I dont know much about disels am afraid. It might be a case of going to a local dealer and getting the car plugged in to see what it brings up. But dont get the work done at fiat.

There is an Italian car specialist in hull if your prepared to go that far. I have driven there to get my manifold replaced on the coupe and the guy is really nice.

I am sure one of a TD or JTD owners might be able to suggest something.

hi mate,
no lights are on on the dash and the car will tick over fine, its only when you rev it up and hold the revs steady,it then starts to miss and smoke and the revs die away to tick over then it will rev back up to where it was before, never mind mate thanks for your time, cheers paul

ye thats what mine did ur suppose to change desiel filter quite regualy

Especially when using crappy supermarket diesel.

My tipo (same engine as 100TD Brava AFAIK) suddenly had a loss of power on the A1M. Would just about rev in neutral but engaging the drive would bring on engine braking. Changed the fuel filter and found lumps of white solid all around the top of the filter. Changed and ran fine after that until the head gasket eventually started to give way.

hi you could have air ingress into the fuel line get some one to rev it and watch the fuel pipes for air bubbles, also try disconnecting air flow meter,

Hello,

This could be the advance solenoid on the injector pump, its purpose is to advance the pump timing. If the injectors are ok, check also the wire coming out of the 1st injector, this gives the ECU the injector timing info. its probably best to get a diagnostic done (any good garage with a brainbee or crypton etc. etc. diagnostics should be able to run it for you) and see what it throws up.

another opinion! White smoke, may be turbo, or head gasket, have you tried a compression test?

hi viper
i dont think it is air coz when you alter the pump timing the car runs great with no missing or white smoke, the problem then is black smoke and lots of it lol

hi stylers
i was just looking at my the fiat technical assistance manual, and thats what i was beginning to think, phoned a guy to plug it in, but he didnt seem to bothered,i think it was'nt worth his while,

hi alex
yer the turbo is fine,no probs their,i have done a water test to see if their is any combustable gasses in the water, guess what, none and the compression test was ok,very little between cylinders, thanks

maybe an ingnition or a timing fault then have u tryed new plugs had the timing checked

hi sammiboo
yer i think it was a wise move,it got me baffled, even the manual doesnt make things easier, cheers
