Hi, Please someone help!!
I have a FIAT BRAVA 1.2 manual 2001 Yreg.
I tried doing a wheel spin at a junction but rubber didn't burn, the wheels just jumped up & down rapidly.
I regret doing this now as the car has developed a knocking sound on the front end.:bang::nutter:
It only seems to knock while the car is in motion. Gears feel fine, steering feels fine, clutch feels fine.
The knocking gets quicker as the car speeds up, then slows when the car slows.
When the car is stationary with the engine running there is no knocking.
Knocking appears weather in gear, neutral, clutch in or out. If the cars moving the front end is knocking.
The knocking sound does appear to get louder when my foot is lifted off the power than when i apply power.
It doesn't change anything when turning corners or on full lock.
In fact to be honest if it wasn't for the knocking noise i wouldn't think there was anything wrong at all.
I've been told by two mechanics that its the gearbox on its way out, but before i try to replace my car, i would like as many opinions as possible.
:doh::doh::doh::doh::shakehead: HELP!!!!

It sounds like either the droplink has smashed or the front arms need replacing. I dont think the box is gone

So what makes you think its NOT the gearbox then?
Is it easy to check if the droplink is smashed?

Experience. Ive smashed 2 boxes and they never make the wheel hop like you described, which sounds like a suspension component has failed. If you jack the car up you can see the drop links from the anti roll bar, attached to the front arm.

While looking at the arm, if the boot is split the ball joint is gone, which also creates a knocking noise

(y)For all i know you maybe right, but it was the juddering in the wheel spin that caused the problem.
Before that there wasn't a problem.

Any way, I'll do what you have advised and take a look.
Thank you for your feedback on this and I'll let you know what i find.
Maybe you can help me further.

Thanks again.(y)

Hi, it's a long shot but you could jack the car up, and see if the wheels have side to side movement showing that you're bearing is worn, thinking of that because you said that it get's louder when you're going faster. Or it could be the drive saft althought they usually sound rough when cornering.

Thanks for all your help guy's. I've looked into it as much as i am capable of doing (which isn't much), and i've decided to replace my car.
I'm replacing it with a 2001 Brava 100 1.6 ELX.
I'm looking forward to getting it cos its got quite a few upgrades than the SX.
Can anyone tell me before i buy this ELX, What exactly are the spec differences?
Here is a list of what i do know
1. All round electric windows
2. Electric Mirrors
3. Heated front seats
4. Remote central locking
5. Front fogs
6. aluminium wheels
7. Different centre consol
8. Headlight water jets

Are there any more differences?(y)
