Hi
i have a problem wiv my fiat bravo hgt, without the lights switched on my indicators work fine, but when i switch my lights on and use the indicators the rear brake lights flash instead of the indicator!!!

can anyone help??? :bang:

sounds like you have a short circuit, in the boot maybe?
Check for water in your boot liner or check the trace the wiring back from your rear clusters and check for breaks.

cheers for that mate, i think it all started when i had a leaky sunroof!!

wot a pain in the arse that was driving to work wiv your feet in a puddle!!!

i wil check it out!!

safe.

Could possibly be the stalk is the problem. This is very common on the Bravo and recently there have been loads of people having this type of issue.

Hopefully it will be a short circuit in the boot somewhere as suggested but if not you are going to need new stalks which aint cheap I'm afraid. :(

You could try using some contact cleaner on the stalk connections if you can get to them and this may sort it out though.

hey,
i sprayed the stalk connections on monday but nothing seemed to happen but then last nite i was driving my car and it was working ok, may be it''s moisture somewhere coz it started happening after the leaky roof problem!!

thanks for the advice though man if i find out a solution i will spread the word.

:)

Hi,

I had a weird indicator/rear wiper problem on my Brava last week, though I do not know if it is also caused by water. I am not sure if my problem is still there now, as I haven't been driving it for the past week.

I noticed the problem when I was driving. Occasionally when I indicated right, the fog light indication on the dash would flash in sync with it. I never got to see if it actually flashed the fog light at the back, because I could not replicate the problem when the car is stationary so I can get out of the car and take a look.

Also, whenever I operate the rear wipers, I hear the rear screen washer pump trying to squirt some screen wash, but I never saw any screen wash actually coming out of the rear wiper jets. Intermittently, I hear this fast ticking sound (like some relay) in the front drivier side/engine area and the rear wiper just does not work. If I try it a few more times, the problem goes away again. I am still trying to suss out (if only I can replicate it).

Anyway, I started looking at the rear screen washer problem, so after taking the boot lid trimmings off, I found that the hose had completely come off the rear screen washer jets (apparently a known problem). I thought, well, it must have flooded this area and shorted some wiring around the area, therefore caused the ticking sound when I start the rear wipers. But then I notice the area was completely dry. The end of the hose wasn't even wet, so it looks like the screen wash is squirting out screen wash elsewhere.

I carried on investigating...tracing the hose from the screen wash bottle pump in the engine bay, and I found that the uni-direction hose connector which joins the hose from the washer bottle to the hose going to the rear wiper jets was actually blocked. The screen wash was actually squirting out there (through a small pin-size hole).

But the point is that for a number of days on the trot, I have been trying to squirt the rear screen wash (thinking it might get through to the rear wiper jets sooner or later). I found that hose connector buried amongst a load of wiring and inside a protective plastic cover. So I am pretty sure this area was completely flooded with screen wash. It was certainly quite wet when I removed the plastic cover. The worse thing was a number of wires with bare ends or just crimped together WITHOUT being taped up afterwards. The bare wires do not appear touch, but with water everywhere you never know.

So I am banking on that this might have caused some of my electrical problems. I have since then replaced the hose connector and my rear wiper jets are working now and no more leaking out. I have yet to tidy up all that bare wiring, though I thoroughly dried the area as much as I could.

Perhaps the problem is still there. I'll check next time I take car out for a spin.

My apologies if my problem is completely different to your Bravo.

sounds like you have a poor earth and the lights are now earthing through a shared earth connection.best to run a new earth to chassis connection on the rear light wiring to see if that solves it.

thanks for the advice man.

although i have bin driving it lately and the problem seems to have gone away, so i wil keep an eye on it and if it re occurs i wil take ya advice and re - earth the badboy!!

nice 1
