Hi Guys
Urgently need help with my Bravo HGT147 - starts from cold and runs for approximately 30 mins brilliantly then completely cuts out and will not restart at all. Leave it for approximately 10 mins and it will begin to fire on a couple of cylinders but won't accelerate, leave it for another 10 mins or so and it will start and run excellently as before. Red injector light seems to take a few seconds to go out after starting any time now, previous to these current problems it went out instantly on starting. Just fitted new fuel filter and crank shank sensor but no improvement. Have contacted several local garages to have the car checked out electronically to diagonose the fault however they all tell me their equipment is not compatible with my Bravo i.e. can't communicate. This is due to the Bravo connection being a 3 pin socket as compared to the multi pin arrangement their machines seem to have. Any suggestions how to overcome this unreliable running as I can't afford to be late for work again. Can't help but think its temperature related but who knows .... Thanks for your help.

Hi bravoboy450
Put up a picture of the engine in your car
What is the mileage.

matt.....how the hell are them questions even relevant? its a 147bhp 5 cylinder engine..why do you need photos?

bravo boy, get it in to fiat, or a fiat specialist such as motormech in birmingham. they should be able to read the ECU

generally anything that series would cause the injector light to light up. the only thing i can think of it that the coil packs or leads are starting to break down as the engine gets hot

does it stutter on the same cylinder each time?

.why do you need photos?
Hi
Sometimes people have modified engines under the bonnet. Sometimes people get rid of the ignition coils and go back to a ignition distributor. The photo just saves time all round.
The mileage tells you what the chances are of the components reaching the end of their useful life.

Hi
Car is totally standard, milage 86 K, timing belt done at 72k. No engine stutter normally apart from after the complete shut down. Twenty minutes after it seems cool down it runs excellent as normal.
Thanks
Bill

Brava 1.4 Hot Starting Problems

Hi, well after a lot of time, effort and money spent on 'Betsie Brava' I've fixed the dreaded Hot-Starting problem. IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTOR.
Following the help and advice I received from members on this site I changed everything there was to change:
Crank position sensor, temperature sensor, oxygen sensor, ECU, ignition coil, fuel pump etc etc.

As a last resort and despite nobody ever having experienced injector problems I decided it was worth paying a last £45 for a replacement injector. The car now starts up every time, hot or cold. I started to think it might be the injector when I took the cover off to look inside, with the engine hot. It was a freezing cold day. Instead of needing an hour or more to cool down the engine fired up. I guessed that the injector was not working when it was hot. When the engine was running the cool air passing over it kept it cool enough to work. When the engine was turned off heat from the engine would rise up the throttle body and the injector would get hot. After being left for just a few minutes the injector was then hot enough to fail. It was then necessary to leave the engine to cool down completely before it would restart. It proved to be difficult tracking down an injector (I live in the Isle of Man) but eventually I found a breaker that did a complete throttle body for £45 delivered.

So, Betsie has been saved from the scrapyard. Many thanks to everyone who offered help. Hopefully my experience will help others who have had the same problems.

Hi
Well done.
You say you bought a throttle body. Is the injector in the throttle body ? How many fuel injectors are there on your engine.
