Desperate Please Help
Hi all please can someone tell me where we are going wrong.. Long story but Fiat Bravo 1.4 driving on Sunday and stopped at junction when all of a sudden NO GEARS WHATSOEVER, had to get towed home. Clutch felt fine although a little pop sound could be heard half way. If i turn the engine off it goes into gear fine, if i try to turn the engine on whilst it is in gear it wont start. Anyway after reading on here we changed the slave cylinder, yes it was split, however this didnt fix the problem although you could now force into gear. We then changed the master cylinder and are now trying to bleed the system but for some un known bloody reason we cannot bleed it. The air is just continuosly coming out and im talking hours and days of bleeding but still not complete.

PLEASE PLEASE can someone tell me what the hell is going on.

You need to be very careful how you go about bleeding the slave cylinder. Did u prime the cylinder with fresh fluid before fitting? And how exactly are you bleeding it? After being primed it should only take around 5 pumps of the clutch pedal do bleed out the remainder of the air in the system. If you are still having trouble after this stage it may be nessasary to loosen the bleed nipple and repeatedly pump the pedal and top up fluid before then proceeding to bleed. I must warn you however that if the slave wasn't primed PRIOR to bleeding, i.e you have dry bleed it, damage may have occoured in which case you will need to replace the cylinder. Hope this helps, Phil

OK further info.... We have completed the bleed but still no gears. if i put it into gear and then start the car it stays in gear but a god awful noise comes from housing. Any suggestions?

Have you got any drive? When it gear with the clutch depressed does the car stay stationary? These symptoms now seem to point to the clutch/pressure plate to be faulty. Can you give a detailed description of exactly when and what is happening and we will see if we can make any more suggestions. Phil
