It's odd but on some days the indicators on my Bravo are working, on other days they only work sometimes or stop completely. I push the stalk up or down and the clicking noise is not there and there is no indicator flashing on the dash.

Can anyone advise as to what the fault might be? I'm guessing the problem is somewhere round the steering column switches?

I was trying to remove the covers today. Got the bottom steering cover off easily. But the upper cover seems to be stuck or has a hidden screw which wont let it come off. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h12/evo149/steering2.jpg

How do i get that cover off? I dont need to remove the steering wheel first do i?

thanks

IIRC there are two hidden screws under neath. They are hard to spot and refit once removed but it is possible.

Sounds like a fuse or stalk fault. Faulty stalks are a common problem. Goto www.fiatboo.co.uk they have a guide for repairing faulty stalks.

To remove the stalk would i need to remove the steering wheel first?

yes i think you do. make sure you disconnect the battery first, then leave it for 15mins. do not reconnect battery until you are finished and it is all put back together.

Column switch, is that the one on the stalk right underneath?

Also im wondering would it be better to salvage a stalk unit from a scrappies? or just buy a new one from Fiat garage - what would the prices be for each?

My gut feeling is that the switch/stalks unit is worn out so it only works sometimes. If i buy one from a scrappies it could be the same thing again. Not sure what to do.

It's a bit of trial and error i suppose. Not sure if its the stalk, dodgy earth somewhere or faulty switch etc. I will have to wait for a day where i dont need to use the car at all before i can start taking it apart. I'm sure it will take a couple of hours to reassemble it all (hopefully).

i think he means the stalk switch when he says column switch.

scrapyard will be fine, i paid £10 last time. dealer will be very expensive.

next time it wont work, try flicking and tapping the stalk, if that makes it work its a good sign that the stlak is the problem. stalk faults are common.
