OBD connector

Hello all, this is my first post on Fiat forums, i just found this place

My question is: exactly where is the OBD connector on '98 Bravo 100TD? I've been lookin' around the car and forums and cant find the location/answer.
Any response is much appreciated.
Cheers!

Re: OBD connector

You dont have one on a TD, if you had a JTD then its under the steering wheel under the fuses. You need put your head into the footwell and look directly up.

For those with JTDs or 1.2's heres the ODB port...

there are 3pin connectors, but no obd connector. the 3 pin connectors are what fiat use to diagnose the car using a fiat examiner. these connectors can be connected to an obd diagnostic machine, but you need to use a few lengths of wire between the 3 pin connector and obd connector (detaield instruction in many of my previous posts if you search).

the problem is that the ecu uses a fiat specific protocol so almost all diagnostic machines wont be able to communicate even if you do connect them to the car's 3 pin socket.

Re: OBD connector

Thank you Jug!

Its ok if its not obd compliant, just need to find it. so far i've looked under the steering wheel and the fuse compartments and i've found just about everything BUT the diagnostic port.

and what do you mean by "few lenghts of wire"? as in...wires of different lenghts (probably not) or as in few pieces (3-4)

Re: OBD connector

ok, to refine my querry a bit. i need the 3-pin port to the main ECU. i figured out what you meant by "lengths of wire" and if i ever find this thing i'll be sure to take pics and share with the forum.

i looked a lot around the fuse box on the drivers side (left side), and im 99% its not there...or im blind.

Re: OBD connector

the position varied with model and year, but usually the main ecu connector is on the front of the fusebox cover in the engine bay (back right when looking in bay)

Re: OBD connector

As Jug mentioned, however some cars had several diagostic ports scattered round the car for different things. One would be for airbags, another for ECU, etc.

What exactly are you after or which port do you need as i might be able to help.

Re: OBD connector

Thank you for replying!

I need the 3 pin connector for the main ECU...the one driving the engine.
I managed to locate the ECU (i believe) behind the plastic in the glove compartment on the passnger side (right side). Steering wheel and fuses are on the left. Right by the ECU there is a some sort of control unit for the airbag, and yellow tube with cabels marked Airbag.

Re: OBD connector

Well i can't find any diagnostic points for the td in my workshop manuals, not saying it doesn't have them, just the manuals show all cars but the 1910TD. I have however found this for you if its any help. Number 2 on the diagram, diagnostic port....

Re: OBD connector

i think we have a winner!

i looked at the diagram and located in fact 2 ports right next to each other. both have black and white wire, difference is one has a yellow body and the other one is gray.
however, im on the cover cap of one of them it says I.E.D (E.D. engine diagnostic?), so im thinking thats the one i need. i'll post some pics ASAP.

thanks a lot for your trouble and time!
also, if this turns out to be working out for me i'll post details as my project moves along.
