Does anybody know where I can get a front shock absorber for a 1999 bravo hgt off of the net? Ive looked in loads of places but cant find any. Been to my motor factors but non in stock and will have order during the week but Im always at work :bang:
Cheers (y)

Did you try EBAY?

If you find them, don't go for any no name replacements (Daco, Record or like).

KYB (Kayaba) Excel-G are good and proven to be stiffer than originals, Cofap is an aftermarket brand of Magnetti-Marelli (originals), Delphi seems to be a good choice, too.

I had to do a search of the forum the other day to find Jug's link in a previous thread

My front passenger shock is leaking so Im planning on ordering some new shocks in the next couple of days.

Jami let me know how you get on with the new shocks - You have the same car and same lowering springs as me so it would be good to know how you get on with them mate.

Jami you got anywhere with these yet mate?

2 weeks later and I've finally ordered my replacement shocks from them

After an incident with a speed bump last night I think I've decided that enough is enough, I've ground out on one too many speed bump since fitting the lowering springs so I think when my new shocks arrive they will be fitted with my original springs :(

Ryan Im not talking about the undertray mate, that got ripped off by a speed bump over a month ago. We are talking about the bottom of the sump/bracket that goes underneith the downpipe.

And believe me I do take them carefully and tackticly. It was a mini speed bump (half the width of the road) and as always I took it off centre to stop it catching but unfortunately I didnt take it far enough wide.

I shall see how I feel when I come to fit the new shocks. I love the way it handles lowered but I am getting sick and tired of it catching on things. It's only lowered 40mm for f*cks sake, its not like I've decked it to the floor

you could fit the standard springs, but then you'll sway round corners, which is never fun. you could instead fit bigger wheels or tyres to increase your ride height, which wont affect performance much because you've got a healthy power to weight ratio. you know a set of 20vT alloys makes sense, plus you'll be able to sell your hgt alloys easily enough so it wont cost you much.

i've got a set of marea alloys that have good 195/55/15 tyres on so should raise her a little, else get somthing like 205/40/17 thats a little bigger.

Si - can you try the lower springs on these struts and get me know if it handles any better so i know weather to get them or not?

Cheers,
Ry

HGT's run 195/55/15 tyres (or at least mine does )

Coop 20vT wheels would be superb, I love them :D but dont think I can spare the cash for a decent set at the moment.

Plus arent tyres for 16" wheels stupidly expensive?

Ryan, I'll consider refitting the lowering springs when I come to fit the new shocks - I'll let you know fella :)

Si I still havent got them fitted yet as Ive had alot of out going this month so when I get payed Ill book it in at a garage and get them fitted, Ill let you know the out come.
I cant understand why your catching on things, A few months ago I was running on 15inch wheels with 45mm tyre wall, with a 40mm drop and had no problems. Now Ive got the 17inch wheels with 40mm wall and only catches the undertray when parking, and the front bumper has to go over a kurb!
erm but yeh they will be fitted very soon(y)

I fitted my new shocks on Saturday - KYB Excel-G's up front and KYB Gas-A-Just's round back. I also decided to keep the lowering springs on.

So far so good - Handling feels sharper, bumps no longer rattle my fillings out and the car no longer bounces all over the place :D

Will update again after they've had a chance to get used to Readings 'lovely' roads

All in all big thumbs up from me (y)

Hey Si just got my shocks done just kyb excel-g's up front, but like you said it feels alot sharper, more confident into corners, bumps are no longer a pain, and yeh it doesnt feel like Im driving a pogo stick anymore :D
So yup thumbs up from me to (y)

P.S while the garage (daysmk-awsome, fiat specialist) did this they found out that one shock had been fitted very poorly from when I got the springs done. The top had been put on upside down  Guess who did the springs??......... Yup fiat at souls a main dealer
