as above really, taken the relays out - no effect. the switch "works" in that the small light comes on and off - but the bumper remains illuminated regardless!

the reverse light Is also inoperable.

any ideas? I have a car with KM speedo and a French manual, is this symbolic of an import? the reverse lens / light is on the passenger side / offside, and the fog is presently behind the driver on the nearside. is this a clue/help?

In the UK the foglight should be on the offside. A fussy MOT man might fail it. Its a simple job to swap them over. I did my sister's for her, can't remember if I had to extend the wires. Maybe some one has had a go and bodged which is causing the problem? Taking the reverse & foglights out may reveal some wiring damage.
