General Fiat 500 X

General Fiat 500 X

500X - I have read quite a few reviews now and I think ALL of them have been positive. Which is unusual these days for Fiats. It looks a much more successful adaption of the 500 design. I could see myself getting one. I think we need a new section on Fiat Forum for the 500X.

I believe Ben is planning a 500X section.

As to the vehicle itself I think we need to get some idea on the pricing too, so far FIAT seem to have been a bit coy ref. how much they will cost, presumably waiting until they are actually available.

It's hard to form a full judgement on them without knowing how much (presumably more) than the 500L it will cost. It's definitely a nice looking car but to me still retains that slightly awkward looking front end. Trying to carry the 500 'look' over to the bigger cars just doesn't quite 'work', which given it works so well on the 500 is a shame realy.

I actually like it.
I'll need to see it up close and personal of course, but so far I'm positive.
And as stuartmunn writes, I've also read only positive reviews.
Pricing will be what's setting on the road to success or failure.
Personally I'm looking forward for when it arrives in Denmark (in the early spring next year I think). Due to our prices in Denmark, I'm looking for the van version (I only need two seats) :)

Interesting review...I am interested, but still don't quite get what some people have against the 500L :)

That being said, I won't be changing mine for a few years yet, unless Fiat offer an early exchange on their PCP deal which I am in.

Also, probably best to maybe wait for a little while to let any teething issues iron out I guess.

The 500X does look nice and I am glad they have made an effort to make the styling look good, whilst keeping the fun aspect...That's what makes the 500 and 500L a 'different' car to drive....I still get kinda excited when I see another 500L on the road :)

Yes seeing another L actually used to be a rare experience now however it's increasingly common.

As to what people have against them, well being totally honest it's not the best looking mini MPV in my opinion and it lacks the sharp crisp lines of some of the offerings from ford and Citroen for example. It's not quite an ugly duckling but it's never going to be the belle of the ball either. We bought ours because the price is right for what we got even on the pop version (though the spec. Has since changed), it's a very practical vehicle and ours is economical to run too, we didn't buy it for its looks for sure.

That said I also would almost certainly have another when the time comes to change but would (if funds allow) stretch to a trecking which to me is better looking because of the rework on the front and rear.

There was a thread on the Panda 2012 section which had a link to a review with all of the prices. First post on this one:

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-iii/358936-panda-4x4-500x.html

As I mentioned on that thread, the pricing does actually seem pretty good. And I also think the 500X looks pretty good as well, it will certainly be a strong competitor for the Juke which seems ever popular.

I never disliked the 500L, especially after I drove a couple with my old job, but the 500X seems even better. They've really brought the character of the little 500 into a bigger model without going to the point of it becoming naff.

The engine, gearbox and 4x2/4x4 options are extensive, the perceived quality seems a vast improvement and even the reviews of the handling are decent.

If anything, it just makes me realise how Panda-like the 500L is. I wish they'd called it a Giant Panda and left the 500X to be the sole 'big 500'.
