When I start my 500 there's a little metallic screech the moment it fires up (half a second tops).
I suspect it might be something to do with the starter motor.
If so, is it fixable or do I need a new starter motor to cure it?
It's not a huge problem to me but the car is up for sale and it will put off potential buyers.
Cheers in anticipation, Chris

Take the belt off and try starting it, if the noise is not there, you have your answer?

Well, sort of. It could still be the alternator bearings (though I'd agree a slipping belt is more likely).

If you adjust the belt to the correct tension (or you fit a new belt) and the squeal disappears, that's definitive (as well as solving the problem).
