Of course, for a Twinair, I only need two, but want to upgrade to Platinium after reading this thread, but there seems to be so many different ones, it's difficult to know which to go for.

I suggest you use the NGK Online Catalog, which should get you the results page copied below (click to enlarge it).

Now use the NGK decode guide (I've attached a copy to this post) to find out exactly what type of plug that is.

For some reason, they're surprisingly expensive (about £13 each on the auction site, which is almost double the equivalent NGK iridium plug for the 1.2/1.4). At least you only need to buy two.

Cheers for that. It seems same price for 2 as the 4 I just bought for my 1.2. Picking the twinair up Wednesday and that will be one of my first jobs.

I put NGK 55242187 in our TA and I'm very very pleased with them.

I went onto Shop4Parts website, and got a couple of these:
https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Details&ProdID=9057&sku=184226

The only number on them is NGK 55242187, so I don't have a clue what sort of plugs they are. As I said, I am very very happy with them and I don't see how fitting anything else could be better in any way.

Cheers,
Mick.

IIRC NGK make all the OEM Fiat plugs; they're platinum on the TA85 & iridium on the TA105, so in the absence of a better answer, I'd say those S4P plugs are platinum ones.

They'll likely only last half as long as the iridium ones; since they're a similar price, over time you'll be paying twice as much, and giving yourself twice as much work, by fitting the S4P plugs instead of the NGK ILKR9G8's.

Iridium plugs should last at least 40,000 miles; platinum ones about half that. The copper core OEM plugs Fiat chose to fit to the 1.2 will be lucky to last 10,000 miles.

Without going back through this thread ...........
As soon as I fitted the NGK 55242187 plugs, the difference in the engine was astounding.

Smoother, quieter, more power(?), happier and more "even" running.
I couldn't be more pleased.

The original ones in the car had probably been in since new, and I fitted the new ones at 18,500miles. I plan on changing them again after maybe half that distance.

The cost wasn't much in the grand scheme of things and the job only took ten minutes (once I'd got hold of the correct plug socket!)

Regards,
Mick.

Actually that's the best argument I've seen for upgrading to NGK Iridiums.

If the OEM plugs were worn to the point that replacement after 18,500 miles made a noticeable difference, I'd certainly not be buying OEM again.

The NGK Iridiums in my Panda are still good after 55k.

So were the Fiat plugs you got from Shop4Parts exactly the same as the original factory ones?
Visibly, yes.
Numerically, no.

Here's an excerpt of mine from up-thread.
....... Now I have the old plugs out, I see they are numbered 55233997
New plugs from Shop4Spares is 55242187

Hope that helps!

Taking what JR has said, I'll be fitting the Iridium ones next. :)

Regards,
Mick.

I fitted NGK iridiums about 2 weeks ago at 19.5k, dident notice any major difference tbh but maybe it's a bit smoother, not sure what the originals were.

Just changed my Twinair spark plugs. Couldn't work out how to disengage the airbox on the front left hand side though so worked around it.

Looks like they did need changing!

You mean the clip on the air intake? I think there's a special tool for these (they have a name) but if you insert a small screw driver or similar in to the 'hoop' on the top of the clip it will prise open. Closing is a bit trickier, I tried a pliers but couldent manage it so I hooked some fine garden wire around the end of the clip and pulled it closed until it engaged
