So I took my Fiat in this morning to check a couple of issues, may as well as I'm under warranty until March 2015.

One of the issues is regarding the hood, there seems to be a bigger gap on one side as if it's not been fitted correctly. It's very minor, but I still feel I need to get this corrected.

Fiat advised that the hinge is mounted slightly differently on that particular side and if I wanted to get it corrected it would have to be done through a body repair specialist otherwise it would void the paint warranty or something. ?

Now the hood has never been swapped so this sounds like a manufacturing defect so Fiat should pay for this? Anyone had any similar issue.

can you take pictures to see it?

Mine's the same, probably out by 2-4mm one side. It's one of those things that's really best left alone, as the potential for additional issues is too great IMO. Some day I want a carbon hood anyway :D

Just rang to check if it is under warranty, surprise surprise it's not because it looks like it has been adjusted before - they can say anything. I don't see the point of having a warranty, can't even get anything on it.

Think I'll just leave it anyway. I agree, probably come out with another issue.

tbh it's not a rolls Royce so the panel gaps are never going to be 110%. It could also be the bumper too? If the bumper has taken a whack then it's hardly Fiats fault.

just be happy you didn't have the Heap Grand Cherokee I had as a courtesy car when my Panda got bummed. You could have driven a 500 through some of the panel gaps and not been able to get a hair through some of the others. Badly assembled PoS

I expect perfection!

Definitely not had a whack on the bumper, just think it's funny how they get out of footing the bill all the time. They can say anything.

Surely they are manufacturing defects though and should be sorted under warranty?

Perfection? Why the hell did you buy a relatively cheap Fiat made in Eastern Europe then?

Plus if it is a manufacturing fault why didn't you notice this in March 2012 when you got the car?

Well when you buy anything you don't expect it to have defects, you expect it to be perfect!

Well it has had two previous owners, I've only had it 3 months.

So you have no idea whether either of the two previous owners (in itself a worrying stat for a 2 and a bit year old car) has smacked the bumper on something or had the bonnet off?

So for all you know its possibly been involved in countless knocks or accidents.

I'm not surprised Fiat are refusing to do anything, its almost slanderous to call it a manufacturing defect when you don't know its full history.

My bonnet was askew with a gap of 5mm on the left side and 10mm on the right (measured at the back corner near the windscreen) but it wasn't that obvious because of the black finish. As it was a new car the dealer couldn't squirm out of it and had their own body shop refit it properly early on. They mentioned in passing that it was a common issue. In my opinion you should be able to expect that rhe panel gaps on a new car are correct - after all, they've been building them for several years now....

Brings to mind what they say about the Land Rover Defender; if the panels are straight you know it's been pranged!

Yes, on a new car you expect the panels gaps to be more or less equal, but Fiat are never going to warranty a car that is 2 years old and has had two previous owners.....

So basically my warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on? I'm learning a lot about cars, this is my first - these 7 year warranties offered by companies such as Kia won't entice me at all in future... These dealers can say anything they like to worm their way out of footing the bill.

So you honestly expect Fiat to fix a problem that may or may not be their fault. No car manufacturer does that. Car warranties do NOT cover physical damage. That's like Apple replacing an iphone for free when someone drops it and cracks the screen.

I think you misunderstand what a warranty is if you think they're just going to fix ANY issue that you have for 3 years.

Lets hope you don't expect your motor insurer to cover you financially when your brake pads wear low, as if you're expecting that you'll be in for another shock!

You really need to understand what warranties are ;)
