Tuning Suspension upgrade on my Twinair : )

That reminds of someone on here who said their 1.2 sounded like a Ferrari a few years ago. Yeah because Ferrari are well known for their fairly characterless and non-revvy 4 pots.....

Calm down lads.., ok, 'race car' for the road, and yes, I did say 1.2 with Magneti Marelli exhaust sounded like a mini Ferrari. The key in the word 'mini' and it was a bit 'tounge in cheek'.
I built and ran a Westfield with 'track' set up for a few yrs. I can tell you that I can take some of the islands and bends (on the road) as quick as I would have in the Westfield. So the Westfield was my 'race car' benchmark.
Apologies to those who might have been thinking I was comparing a Fiat 500 to a Pagani Zonda. I'm sure most of you knew what I meant ; )

I put it to you that your Westie wasn't set up very well if the 500 feels as good.

Don't be such a sceptic bgunn.
I didn't say it felt as good, I said it was as quick through certain road sections.

I wasn't referring to you with the Ferrari comment actually! :)

Don't get me wrong, the 500 feels very good on B14's, but it aint no race car :)

I know maxi but I was guilty of that comment too lol.

I can be as sceptical as I like given that I own a 500 with higher specced suspension than yours.

I suspect it's more a confidence issue - the 500 is very forgiving (being a very nose heavy FF car with relatively high levels of grip). A well driven Westfield or Seven would absolutely trounce a 500 in almost *any* situation.

Yes, you're right, yours is bigger than mine and I'm probably not much of a 'race car' driver ; )

This is very true. A few cars ago I uprated my suspension and the cars handling changed from finding the cars limit to finding mine. Although I find the standard setup is reasonable for 'normal' driving conditions, how much difference does a suspension upgrade make on the 500?

I think the B14 is the 'ultimate' suspension upgrade. The Koni FSD with Eibach Sportline springs has also totally transformed the 500.
It really is day and night difference.

So with all these suspension mods going on, is there a need to upgrade bushes at the same time? Most OEM bushes tend not to be great so is there a case for upgrading to the likes of Powerflex whilst doing the springs & dampers? Just curious!

There's no need to upgrade bushes tbh. The bushes on a car that's a few years old will be just fine, aside from the top mount bush on the rear dampers of course!

Powerflex bushes will also make the car feel harsher and noisier on the road.
For a track car I would do it but not for a daily driver.

Yeah, there was a definite increase in NVH when we polybushed the front of our Subaru. Still wouldn't go back, the original bushes were forked and combined with new balljoints, rack ends and tie rod ends the steering is now rather lovely :)
