Hi all,

As above the airbags have deployed due to a minor crash. We have decided to repair the car. We have a NO start condition, we are new to the Fiat's, Do the Fiat's have a safety feature just like others to not start once airbags have been deployed

Many regards

No idea, but since Fiat is pretty hot on safety, and since this is probably an EU directive anyway, and since it would be dangerous to drive a car with defective airbags; I'd say, yes.

There is a technique that can be followed which is documented in the manual - which relates to turning indicator stalks left and then right in a certain combination.

I do not have the handbook handy to double check for you - but that should hopefully point you in the right direction

Ben has taken the time and trouble to add manuals/handbooks to this thread for just such an eventuality. (y)

This may not apply to modern fiats, but in older fiats, even up to the early 00's they were fitted with a fuel cut off switch, behind the centre console that was inertia activated. so when the car made impact the switch turned off and stopped the fuel supply to the engine. was sorted out by pressing the switch and it would release allowing fuel to flow through the pipe again. this could be the problem as the ecu will pick up a "no fuel" scenario in the injectors. could be the answer your looking for,

I wouldnt worry about driving a car with no airbags, you'd be doing it anyway if the car was over 10 years older anyway, it will just hurt more in a crash this time

The fuel cut off is built into the SRS ECU on the 500 so can only be reset via diagnostic equipment, although as the air bags have deployed the unit will need replacing

I'm sure Chris is correct but there is this info listed in the 500 handbook (perhaps for when you receive a knock but air bags aren't delpoyed, sorry, deployed, lol).

FUEL CUT-OFF SYSTEM
It intervenes in case of collision, activating:

switch off of fuel supply with resultant
engine switch off;

automatic door lock release;

switch on of all lights inside the car.
When the system is active, the message
“Fuel cut-off see handbook” is displayed.
Carefully check the car for fuel leaks, for
instance in the engine compartment, below
the car or near the tank area.
After the collision, position ignition key on
STOP

to avoid battery draining.
To reset car operation, follow this procedure:

turn the ignition key to MAR;

activate the right-hand indicator;

deactivate the right-hand indicator;

activate the left-hand indicator;

deactivate the left-hand indicator;

activate the right-hand indicator;

deactivate the right-hand indicator;

activate the left-hand indicator;

deactivate the left-hand indicator;
turn the ignition key to STOP.
