Yeah but having your car for a few extra months is far better than waiting for one with better rear suspension. You'll get used to it after a while tbh :)
....and its far better than not getting a 500 at all having missed out on the scrappage scheme.

So I'm still happy :D and looking forward to getting this car.

Been waiting a looooooong time for it :worship:

You're right much better to get the car and if you don't compare it to the new one hopefully you won't notice.

Really you'll only notice going over bumpy road at speed. if in a few years I was thinking of rebushing the back of the car or putting coilovers on I'd consider changing the rear beam but tbh I think for the cost and bother at the moment a good set of coilovers is a better investment.

Please excuse my ignorance - why is having a new rear suspension such as a great thing? What's wrong with the rear suspension as it is?
The current rear suspension is too stiffly sprung and is underdamped so when you go over bumps the rear end just jiggles about basically. I've had one occasion where I would feel that I wasn't driving all that enthusiastically and a bump in the road made the rear end of my 500 kick out a line a little bit.

tbh i think it's going to be so much better than my 15 year old mazda!

Hmmmmm I doubt it. The rear end of the 500 can be quite fidgety.

Hmm i guess the coilovers would help eh?.

Believe me my car is very weird to drive, very vague power steering and zero feedback through the steering wheel too. Doesn't make for a confident drive!

Yeah, springs also help on their own as well.

I do wonder what you'll make of the 500. It has artificially heavy steering and isn't exactly feedback city either :) it's not horrible or anything and you can have a play with it but for me it doesn't have inspire that extra 5% confidence which would be nice to have

Interesting, what did you have before? I've have quite a few fiats over the years old pandas cinqs etc and tbh i loved the cinq sporting handling and that had really heavy steering, i'm hoping it's going to be like coming home, you know familiar :)

Well i've never owned a small Fiat so couldn't possibly say!

My car history Fiat 131> Peugeot 504> Peugeot 406> Fiat 500

I've also has along the way the use of a Saab 900, A Hyundai Accent (yuck, my brothers car) and the wifes Subaru Legacy Turbo.

The 500 isn't horrible by any means but the suspension is in my opinion a bit of a blot on the car and the steering isn't as nice as it's been on any of the other cars I've driven for a period of time aside from the accent. But then again it was good enough for me when the back a bitstepped out around a sweeping bend at about 40 so I guess it's not horrible. Perhaps I'm just not a small Fiat person?

That's 72mpg and 0-60 in 10.5: brilliant really. I'm sure that with just a little more tweaking they could have got the CO2 g/km to below 100 though, and saved us yet more tax.

But it does seem quite expensive: does the Pop come with A/C now I wonder?

Do we know when the suspension changes are going to filter through to the production line?

Thanks

No official word, but as soon as the new engines arrive I guess it'll be fitted to all 500s. Spring next year?
