Hi all, I’ve a 2008 Cross with the MP3 Blaupunkt head unit. I know they are not great without a bit of tweaking, but noticed that later (possibly 2010 model year) variants can have Bosch units.

Are they interchangeable and is there any difference in sound quality?

TIA

I have no idea about Bosch/Blaupunk variants, but I doubt there is much discernable difference in sound quality between the two. The components which make the biggest difference are the speakers used, what sort of cabin characteristics the Panda has and the body mass of passengers together with luggage carried inside. The other thing is door panel quality and padding, if the car has lots of rattles etc. The head unit differences would only be at most 3-4% of discernable quality differences. There is a lot of rubbish talked about car sound with a lot of people making a lot of money from gullible people. In-car sound specialists will meter the noise levels from all different spots in the car, and all those precise measurements go out the window when a fat person gets in or a thin person gets in, or a window is opened. It is basically smoke and mirrors and nonsense. The only way to get real hi-fi in a car is if the same driver and the same weather and luggage conditions for every trip. I know - I was the State Service Manager for Pioneer Electronics in Western Australia before repatriating to the UK. Function differences are another matter, maybe the Bosch has better functions, I have no idea.
