My 1500 X1/9 has a broken rear spring. My garage tells me they can't find a replacement and on checking round specialists I got the same answer.

A very helpful lady at Eurosport is checking if they have any used springs but in the event of a negative response I'd be grateful for info on whether I could use springs from another car (ie non X1/9) and thoughts on the lowered and uprated springs which seem to be available.

On dropping into the car I have never thought "what this car needs is to be 30mm lower". I find the ride to be quite comfortable - a firmer ride might simply make more components fall off!

Of more concern is what effect fitting them would have on clearance, both ground and wheels. The car is completely standard and while there appears to be plenty of space above and around the front wheels, this may not be the case.

I'd be grateful for any comments.

FWIW, way back in the day I had cut a quarter turn from my springs on my US spec '79, I liked the ride but it was a bit stiff for daily driving. I had 205's in the back and 195's in the front. My front's would rub when I turned hard. What size tire do you prefer? What size wheels do you have?

Keep looking, I am sure you can find some stock springs out there. I know someone who may have a couple of springs, want me to inquire?

Thanks for response.

Very efficient Eurosport is sending me two springs in post.

They are not new but from same donor car. I will have both fitted and keep sound spring as spare.
