X1/9 1500 cc engine hesitates on accelleration.
Has good plugs.
Carborator
Electronic ignition.
Timing set to spec at 5 deg BTDC.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?

Assuming it only happens when warm then there are a few things to check

1) Make sure there are no leaks in the induction system after the carburettor. A small leak won't make much difference at high revs but at idle especially it can play havoc

2) Check the carb float level is correct, if not it will not run rich enough under acceleration to pull cleanly

3) Check the acceleration pump diaphragm is intact and pumping fuel through the acceleration jet (the one that hangs over the top of the venturi). When you manually operate the throttle (even with the engine off) you should see a definite spray of fuel as the throttle opens

4) Check the warm idle mixture screw is "tight" (I don't mean tightened as far as it will go - it just simply mustn't be loose - the rubber O-ring on the screw can degrade allowing it to move under vibration (this would only affect acceleration from idle)

5) Check your compression ratio, a blown head gasket can result in the same long before it becomes noticeable otherwise

6) Make sure your engine is timed up against the correct timing mark - the preferred method is the back of the camshaft pulley and the flywheel

7) Make sure the camshaft is correctly timed against the crank - the engine is non-interference so it can skip teeth on the belt without breaking but it can give it some odd performance characteristics
