can anyone recomend suitable tyre size to go onto standard 13inch rims, I don't want anything silly size but something that will be in keeping with a standard car, currently running 175/70/13.
Any recomendations on tyre manufacture ?

185/60-13 is the normal upgrade for width.
There used to be a great tyre size calculator on miata.net that did all the hard work for you but it didn't stop you selecting tyre sizes that aren't made.

The important thing is not to increase the overall diameter of the tyre to avoid inaccuracies on the speedo but given how far off it is as standard I don't think there is too much of a problem...

185/60/13 Yokohamas fitted, they look so good
