well my first question would be in ungrading certain parts such as muffler or catalytic converter would it trigger any censor switches what have you??? i have many more questions but we"ll start here. thanks aaron

Hi Aaron,,, I would consider taking out the x19's motor and replace it with a Uno Turbo's motor,,, the only things you need to change is the plumbing of the boost pipes and correct placement of the inter cooler. The same gearbox can be used or if you don't feel like it, you can always use the UT's gearbox. In South Africa that is the BEST UPGRADE or as you would say PERFORMANCE UPGRADE and still keep it FIAT.

The problem is that Uno Turbo's are essentially impossible to obtain in the USA as they were never sold there and the costs of shipping are prohibitive.

The flip side of this is that the fuel injection version of the engine (as aaron has) is basically just the same engine as the UT motor. It doesn't have the oil spray jets in the crankcase, the oil feed to the turbo or the specialised pistons but it is much closer than the old 1500 engine fitted to X1/9s elsewhere in the world. More than a few american owners have fitted just the turbo and essential ancillaries. Provided you keep the boost low you still get a healthy dob of extra performance and don't forget you have an extra 200cc of displacement too to compensate for the lower boost.

The simple answer to the original question is that yes they can be safely removed as long as everything is bypassed and there are no gas leaks. I strongly recommend against just hacking everything up though as the odds are you will want to put the equipment back on periodically (depending on state law).

ok im not sure wut uve told me. u see im not into swappin engines cuz mine has 60k original which makes it worth a decent buck. but i am lookin to help the car run smoother and efficiently and to my understanding putting in a better cat. and muffler would do that? and as far as headers are concerned i see all these headers that are universal how does that even work? cuz i kno what headers are but never installed them or really understand how their installed??? maybe u kno or could giv me sum general knowldege???
