I am from germany so please sorry for my bad english.
This is perhaps a really silly question, but I have to ask. I got a 1992 Fiat Uno as a present from my parents ( I have in some weeks the driver license). I bought a PDA with a Navigation System on it, but the GPS module will only work with a cigarette lighter. No the problem is that parents not I know where this lighter is. We lift the tray where the Ashtray is hidden but no luck. left beside the ashtray is a thermometer i think but nothing behind it. Now did someone knows where it can be? Or is it possible that my Uno has no lighter and can I then retool it?

In the UK, the cigarette light is under the flap in the centre of the console to the left of the ashtray. However, it wasn't fitted on all models. It sounds like either standard in that hole on your car was a thermometer OR somebody fitted it during its time as they wanted a way of seeing how warm it is! Basically that is where it is supposed to go. I didn't have fitted on mine but all it took was a couple of wires into a connection behind the fuse box (the correct connection if i remember correctly is black, it can be found by using a multimeter and pulling out the fuse with a picture of a cigarette just above/below whilst doing a voltage check on the plugs hidden behind the fuse box).

Any cigarette lighter will do, you should be able to buy one from a motorshop, ebay or a scrap yard (assuming you have those in Germany?!) It could be fitted anywhere really, I was going to go for behind the radio as I wanted it only for a CD player but decided in the end to go for the proper point which doesn't seem an option to you.

It's good you found the cover for the ashtray. It took me 6 months to find (1993 Uno 1.1 i.e.S). I accidentally hit it with my elbow and uncovered it that way. Thought I'd bought the only car without a cigarette lighter. The thermometer thing must have replaced the lighter. It's there on mine as you thermo is.

You can eventually mount cigarette lighters wherever you want. Buy one from one that sells them (obviously ) and mount it behind the stereo unit on the console to the right of the pedals (as Paul says). Much nicer to stretch cables from your navigator there instead of having the ashtray open at all time.
