Hi My son has an old Fiat Uno F Reg as his first car and has got a problem with the indicators. He broke down put his hazards on. Turned them off. Now he has no indictors or hazards?? any ideas. We have checked fuses and a mechanic has checked the switches. Anyone had any similar problems?

Could be the relay perhaps?? Have you checked the more obvious things like the bulbs? Could be bad connections, they are prone to wear and tear with age, i had a similar problem once and it turned out to be the connectors, i just cut them off and used bullet type connectors instead and havent had a problem since :)

Never heard of this.
If all fuses are indeed OK, start the troubleshooting by trying the hazard switch with multimeter first as it may have jammed, then move to the stalk relay unit etc.

As per both Fro$ty and CZenda, check the switch for shorting and also check the relay unit. As both hazards and normal indicators have failed at once I'd suggest that maybe the relay has failed? Try and subsititute another to see if that is the problem.

Welcome to the forum by the way! Do you have any pictures of your son's Uno?

Thanks for the ideas guys. We have swapped the relay from the horn and this still works with the indicator relay. Our mechanic is scratching his head. It looks like an electrical fault of some discription. There is power going to the switches and to the hazards so it is all a bit puzzling. As for a picture - the poor old thing doesn't look too well at the moment as he had an argument with the back of a mercedes! We have had it straightened and the radiator repleced - but it was really just to get it back on the road. He then decided to take it to Cardiff (against my advice!) and the clutch went and now the indicators. Fiat Uno heaven may soon be calling!! Still it was cheaper than getting another car - better the devil you know!

OK Tracey, (welcome to the forum by the way)...

You can't swap the horn relay with the indicator flasher - they're totally different internally - I guess you've figured this out now :)

The flasher is the long black 'relay' plugged into the stalk switch itself. I've had problems with loose connections there (the flasher, due to its size and weight, tends to fall out) and this will affect both the hazards and the indicators. So I suggest unplugging the flasher and tightening the socket connections using a very small screwdriver.

Cheers,
-Alex

Hi where do I find this switch. is it on the steering column or in the fuse box. Both my indicators and hazards stopped working.

Hi
Check that the relay is firmly seated in the socket at the fuse box.

The relay sits quite loosely on the fuse box and may drop slightly causing the issue that you describe - I experienced this once - and also after uing the hazards.

Another troubleshooting tip, it to remove the relay and firmly re-insert it.

Relays are quite cheap, you can replace it if the above does not solve the problem.
