Hi guys,

one more "noise" problem. This time looks like the brakes

When the car is moving there's a constant sound coming from somewhere under the bonnet (or so it sounds).
If I keep the brake pedal pressed slightly the sound will go away.
The sound also goes away after a fresh wash at the washing center ( only for about a couple of hours though)

The sound is kind of a constant dull rattle. It is definately _NOT_ the usual high pitched sound like that of worn out brake pads.
Could it be the calipers? Any ideas on how to fix it.

Yeah its probably the little metal clips on the brake pads. I think you can buy replacements.

check the anti rattle shims on the pads if there not there thats the rattle also quite possible the front brakes need replacing

I would suggest disassembly and cleaning of the calipers with a wire brush, then lubricating them with a copper grease. Also, I would check pads and discs for wear, irregular wear etc. It may also be a caliper piston seizing, in which case a complete disassembly would be recommended.

Hm... I think it can wait until spring

hmm.... thanks for the tips folks
something funny happened over the weekend.
As mentioned in the original post, washing seems to temporarily solve the problem, so took the uno to a car wash and got it washed thoroughly, with more time spent washing the wheels (and everything around it). You should've seen the amount of brake dust that came out from behind the wheels
Well, since that wash, the sound hasn't returned yet.
Hopefully it will stay that way. Fingers crossed.

Sounds to me like the caliper might be siezed causing the brakes to wear rapidly and give off loads of dust.
If i was u id strip and clean all brake components, copper slip the back of the pad and the edges where the pad sits in the carrier then at least u know every thing is ok as u shoud never take any risks when it comes to brakes...(y)

Hows it going with the mighty v6 power mintrob

Yeah good mate, just put 4 new cam shafts in her and made a custom straight through exhaust, added a k&n and now im seeing nearly 200 bhp at the fly..
I miss my uno so much, so im looking for another one at the mo...Thinking of re shelling a turbo, been offered a clean 45s and i know where i can get all the running gear off a turbo..... just money is the only thing holding me back... (n)

Sounds like you want to come back into the fold eh!. is she as quick as the uno? loui bee's flogging a UT cheap and apparantly is a mint shell just needs a stroke off the right man if you know what i mean, my mate turned up last night in a fuuckin INTEGRALE!!!! the one car i will own especialy now, just cant convince myself to sell the golf and i'l never sell the UT, even if the misses stuffs it into a tree, IT WILL BE REBORN!! but when the integrale was parked next to the UT it looked like its big bro loved it Ant!

Id say the uno was deffo quicker on acceleration but the vectra well ive had 147 mph out of her with more to go, really needs a six speed box then its good for 160mph...
Unlike my mates skyline, he's had 169 mph out of her with more to go now thats quick....:Offtopic:
