Hello Everyone - First Post
I have a Fiat Uno 60 diesel start 2 door hatchback 5 speed g/box 1995. Since I have had this vehicle (and it has been excellent) the gear stick rattles when cruising on the motorway. This gets quite annoying. Can any one suggest where the rattle is coming from? I presume it will be on the linkage and not a gearbox problem.
Many Thanks
Tom

I got a Un Start 1.7D, 1995, have the same problem with a gear stick that rattles. And yes really annoying. When I got some time, gonna get under the car and go on a mission to fix it.

Though holding on to me nob while driving seems to partially eliminate the rattle, so i presume it is more of a linkage problem or something.

Do any other Uno's have this problem or is it just related to the diesel models ??

Rich.

Many thanks for the reply I was beginnimng to think everyone was ignoring me ! (only joking)........Mmmmm........ seems as though it might just be the diesel layout. My problem is exactly the same i. e. disappears if you hold on to the gearstick. Please let me know if you solve the problem

It is not just the diesels. On my 93 1.0ie (C514 box) the gear lever is always moving but will rattle noticably at certain loads. I presume that it is a point in a vibration pattern which is very occasional and as such, does not bother me.

Hi my first ever post on here well i can say that my uno turbo i.e gear stick does not ratlle although feel abit like stirring pordge anyone got any ideas why that is :Dthanks ppl

Just slighty off topic, on your diesel, or i suppose any other model, do the side vents actually work ?? the only time i get air coming out of them is when im probably doing over 60 and the air is being forced through the ventilation system, otherwise, if say doing 30, the side vents dont work at all ! no matter what speed the fan is on. Also, is it a fault not to get hot / warm out of the main central vents ? Cause all i ever get is cool / cold air. Hot only comes out of the vents for the windscreen and footwell.

As for the gear stick, should be having a look this weekend, will keep y'all posted.

The rattle is due to worn out "bushings" or mechanism. According to the fiat garage guys, it was a common problem. Apparently costs around £15 to get the replacement parts.

As for the vents, thats "another" common fault with the Uno. Duff side vents (apparently the fan isnt powerful enough....hmmm) and no hot air out of the main central vents, just fresh air. Why they designed it like this I have no idea.

Hope this helps,

Rich.

About the vents.

Drive your car through a carwash and open the sidevents. This is how I found out how the side vents worked. When the car was to be blow-dried (bad choise of word), old leaves and sand was blast in my face.

The center and side vents are for fresh air only. The vents on the side has no help of the fan and is driven by "mph". Try to open a window when driving to fake som kind of under-pressure. This will propably let air flow out of the side vents. Stupid and annoying design-problem. Especially during winter, it is rather difficult to get the fog off the side windows.
