I'm having a little trouble with my oil pressure guage, its not working,

however when the engine is started the oil pressure warning light goes out, could someone tell me where the sensor is? maybe i havnt plugged it back in properly or something as it worked before i changed the head gasket.

the guage works fine, i changed back to my digital dash but still no luck.

can someone help?

Mark.

Oil pressure gauge sender is different from the switch sender. The gauge sender is a cadmium-plated (gold-ish) 'pot' about 3-4cm diameter and perhaps 4cm high. It's screwed into the engine block (usually) though in my case it's the oil filter sandwich plate. Either way, it's near the oil filter at the front of the engine.

The senders in the Uno seem to be pretty reliable compared with the similar sender used in Alfa Romeo 164s and Bertone X1/9s (don't ask how I know this ;) - never seen a faulty one in an Uno but changed at least four of the others). If they fail, it's usually a partial failure in that the gauge gives low readings. The readings can still vary with the engine being cold/hot even if the sender is faulty...

If you have a complete failure (gauge needle not moving to 0 when you turn the key), it's more likely that the single wire has fallen off or was not plugged in (as you said).

Mark,

I had issues on My MK2 where I’d loose all oil pressure on the guage when setting off. Would come back when I changed gear
It turned out a previous owner had broken the spade connector off and badly soldered the wire back on. I cleaned it up and soldered a new joint to fix.

Just had a look on my 1299 and see the sensor is screwed to the block just to the left of the oil filter sandwich plate. It has a yellow plastic thingy where the wire goes in. Sensors wire is black with a black secondary shield, which connects to a grey/red wire.

The wire goes through the clip that blanks the alternate distributor location in front of cylinder 1. Its very likely you disturbed it when you did the head IMO.

Hope this helps and cheers for sorting me the Turbo. Still no progress to report :chin:

Alex – how come your different mate?

LOL - "I'm just different and that's the way that I am..." :)

My oil pressure sender is relocated on the oil cooler pipe fittings, which are turned vertically so they face upwards... all to free up space for the air-conditioning compressor tucked up against the oil filter! In the pic you can see a large shiny bolt blanking the hole where I think the oil pressure sender is usually installed, left of the oil filter.

However I took the compressor off some time ago, along with its heavy steel bracket that reached under the sump. I'm thinking of putting it back on sometime, to get the air conditioning working again. The modifications to the heater box are clever and it seems a shame to waste them just to save weight.
