Gave my car to a local fiat dealer and he did the following:
1. Complete tuning of the carb., including a new carb kit
2. Changing some 'metal plate' in the distributor
3. Changing the module on the dizzy
Well, the idle problem has gone but some new ones presented themselves. The car would fail to start if I sitched it off for a few minutes at a signal, it would crank and then take a hell of a long time to start. So back to the garage and he tried everything, from a new fuel pump, to a new ignition module. Finally, he just changes the spark plugs and it now seems to be running OK (although sometimes I still need to crank it more than I'd like to)
What is particularly worrying me is a peculiar jerking that happens only between 20-30 kmps. The dealer says this is because of the worn tyres (the tyres are worn out as I have'nt replaced them since I bought the car in 1997). I am worried if this could be a float issue or something more serious. The car runs fine otherwise.
