Hi, im thinking of swaping the spi set up on my uno to carb(s)
I had an uno 55 (1116cc) which had a twin choke of a lancia beta 2000 on it. Do you think there would be any difference in performance if i was to da a similar set-up on my 1372 cc uno (non fire) or would a pair of IDF's be a better idea, also where the heck can i get a inlet manifold from for the IDF's

:) cheers any help appreciated:)

Hmmmm... interesting question :)

'Bayless' in the USA http://www.baylessfiat.com/ used to supply manifolds for the SOHC engine as used in the FIAT 128 and X1/9 - these should fit your 1372cc. I think this is the way that I'd go, with two DCNF carburettors rather than IDF. I had two DCNF 40's on the 1500cc engine I put in my 128. I used a new manifold that someone ordered from Bayless for me. Bayless have been around for ever, so they must be a reasonable firm to deal with!

Take a look at http://www.baylessfiat.com/Catalog/Catalog 051-060.pdf (I'm enjoying reliving the memories here!) You would need the 128 manifold, not the X1/9 one (engine angle is different). Price is $459.95 (US dollars). I paid about that, but I got my two 40 DCNF carbs for a steal at just NZ$500 (about US$300).

IDF will work, but theoretically they are for longitudinal engines (rear-wheel-drive) and the float chambers can get fuel surge problems if mounted on a transverse engine - however, I have seen IDFs working on a transverse engine... so it can work out OK...

There is one other company that I'm aware of that offers a similar product -PBS Engineering - and I see from a quick web search that it's listed on their website. http://pbseng.com/FIATX-19.html MUCH cheaper, but probably some compromise angle (to suit both 128 and X1/9), probably doesn't come with any linkage for between the carbs (but you could make this and will still need to make throttle cable mountings etc. for the Uno anyway).

Then - we cannot forget Al Cosentino... ranting and raving... I think he gets more nuts every year... The latest result of a search for 'FAZA' (his business) turns up this crazy web page http://www.italysfamousexhausts.com/ Somewhere he WILL have twin-carb manifolds for sale, but finding them is anyone's guess. This is his idea of a parts catalog: http://www.italysfamousexhausts.com/ad1.html It says he has 2,500 Weber manifolds and kits.

However, as you can probably tell, you're talking big $$$s to fit twin Webers... more than the value of the car! Of course this may not be a problem to you, but if it is, you might like to consider tinkering around with a carb/manifold off a FIAT Tipo (which came with 1372cc and 1580cc engines) - don't know whether it would drive any better than with the SPi you've got, though - personally I wouldn't bother ;)
