Fiat Uno Turbo Mk1 Restoration Project Woo!

I got the Uno Turbo in July, 7 months back, it was bought off ebay for 409 and I drove it back a 4 hour journey from Bournemouth... although it seemed shorter than this!

Time flies when your Uno does!

I've had an Uno, F98 PEF, that I was going to restore the previous summer, but the extent of the rotworm, the fact that the arches were beaten in and not actually widened, the smoking and unevenness of the engine, the fuel pump problems and... lots of other things, directed me to not restore this. The suspension, hormann bodykit and some peformance enhancing modifications were to be removed from this shell and fitted onto the NEW Uno (G550 UOD).

Objectives
  • Have arches widened and all rust treated
  • Lower the car -60mm/-40mm front/rear with Jamex springs & shocks
  • Fit Hormann Motorsport bodykit
  • Fit 15" TSW Blade alloy wheels
  • Fit Mk2 doors
  • Fit 3x8" subwoofers
  • Fit 80s Radio/Cassette (one better than the standard fitted one!)
  • Spray car black

Final Stages
  • Fit Golf MKIV seats on custom subframes... low down
  • Fit MK2 dash, partial loom, centre console, white dials
  • Tune engine to over 160bhp

I'm going to backtrade and date stamp everything...

July '06 Lowered & Delocked (photoshop -> I did lower the car, and delock the standard Mk1 passenger door)

Standard rear

This looks an interesting project, I do enjoy these restoration threads, looking forward to tracking the progress. I must say I'm a little confused with how many Unos you have Dragyth. What have you got/had?

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo Mk1 Restoration Project Woo!

Shame it ain't staying silver, really...
I've had three Uno Turbos, including this one, a donor one for the kit, and one completely rotted out one.
My dad owned a 45-s.

More pictures/updates soon.

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo Mk1 Restoration Project Woo!

which shocks and springs did you use then? And if you take like 3 people at the back, the wheels hit the body?

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo Mk1 Restoration Project Woo!

hey, just me in the car without my sub, with the rear arches rolled slightly, on these country roads, the wheels knock the arches if I hit a slight dip too fast. And I mean a slight dip. =)
Even with 2 in the car, on small roundabouts, the wheel scrapes the arch a little!

You can take 2 passengers in the car, even if they are 10 and 7 st respectively but the 7 stoner sits in the middle in the back, and you take it easy!!

3 passengers was never gonna work. they're Jamex, and I think, due to the downward tilt of the car, they're actually 60mm front 40 back.

But at least I'm getting good ride comfort, and a nice mean downward stance!

I'm having my personal welder man dude (Rob MintMk1Uno) bring up the rear arches by 2-3 inches and weld and seal them shut, then the kit'll have rear arches as large as the fronts. =)

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo Mk1 Restoration Project Woo!

Pictures of Sedicivalvole wheels on the car, with the Hormann bodykit test-fitted.

As you can see, they're a bit too thin to look good. Italian-styled bodykit with italian rims that're both loosely copied off a Ferarri 348... Na, didn't work.

Front bumper wasn't yet removed/swapped for Hormann, nothing was really fixed on apart from rear bumper.
Front grille sanded down and sprayed all-black.
Rear exhaust, 3.5" system removed, replaced with 4.5" system from the bodykit's Donor Car. Gives a slightly meatier note and, more importantly, fills the exhaust cut-out at the back of the car quite well.
Bonnet sprayed black. (did that a while back for exeter cruise)

By this time, I had my Rover 214SEi and I was no longer insured on the Uno. It failed it's MOT so I got a runaround car (rover) that turned out to cost me a small fortune. It would've cost the same, or less, even, to have the Uno welded up at the, er, garage down the load for people with full pockets, to have all the bulbs replaced and 2 new wishbones fitted.

Rover gets me around in reasonable comfort, or did, and returns amazing MPG. Especially compared to the Uno and the way I used to drive it. =)

These pictures were back in August/September 2006.
