Hello all

So far my mk1 is coming on great, ive done the brakes and a full service, ive finished welding the rear turret using the repair panel, i might i say what a corker of a job i done, looking at it fron either side you really cant tell the difference, no weld marks at all so im well chuffed...

Right this is what i need help on - for the winter months i want to strip the car down fit 2 new front wings and a new bonnet, gonna try source some doors with no rust in them and then have the whole car resprayed the same colour (red).
How ever ive had some thoughts, for those of you that know i own a standard k1 with no mods what so ever, it even has the side graphics so shall i keep the car standard but just treat it to a fresh paint job all over or shall i do this..

Remove door locks as i have remote central locking already
smooth the tail gate
lower it 40mm on a good shock and spring kit
15 " white multi spoke oz racing alloys

I think with these mods it will look great but then it wont be standard so might not appeal to all people.... god what shall i do lad's help me out....
(y)

Hey Rob how are you?

I would definitely go for removing the locks as it just makes it safer. Lowering goes without saying as cars are never designed at production height. Smoothing the 'gate goes against my beliefs but as for the wheels they're not permanent so why not. Just keep the originals in the garage. As for the decals I will do them one day so hold tight.

I've spent a good few days stripping mine down to no interior or bumpers. Found some initial rust areas that I've sorted. Keep a close eye on turrets all round, boot floor to inner wing, sills to floor and seam on top of the sills. Oh yeah and waxoil everything. I did a whole big tin yesterday................M.

See the for sale section mate ;) might give you kind of an idea of what it would look like.

the wheels are not white though.

Ive just done my turrets on both sides and ive just put all my interior back in so i know its totaly rot free now and im half way through painting the under side..
Heres a pic of the wheels i was thinking 14" with a 45 profile tyre and lower her 40mm with good shocks, ill keep my doors and boot and get 2 doors and a boot and smooth them both then if i dont like them i can put the originals back on, i think it would look great then i can tap u up for them side graphics and job done..:D

nice wheels but 14" 45 profile tyres will be stupid money, i would go for 15" wheels.

Delock is a good idea and cleans the doors up.

Not to sure on the smooth tailgate on the uno as its to flat and square.

def all locks off, 40mill should be a nice sympathetic drop, oz alloys always look good

def hold onto the graphics, they look great! i plan on having them back onto mine whenever its done, its one of the few cars where it just looks right

rather you than me, you can get wider and lower profile tyres cheaper for 15's ;)

if you not going to take the boot handle off then i would just leave the plate on there otherwise its going to make it stand out a mile and you know how ugly they are.

also have you thought of a punto mk1 rear wiper, looks alot nicer, i would put a picture up of the rear but it has a gay square plate.

Door locks removed - good idea as the originals weren't exactly secure...
Graphics - Keep them! If you're respraying, take photos and measurements, even use tracing paper to make copies. They can be made up by any vinyl design company.
Flush Boot - NO! Looks too Chavvy, and makes the back look like a big barn door...
Wheels - Not sure. The originals look nice, but as long as you keep them fit whatever you want but not chrome spinners!

I'd say try and keep it as standard as possible as mk1's are both rare and definitely in classic car territory now. Over modified turbos will be worth less over time than a clean standard example. Keep the serious mods for under the bonnet ;)

Come on slap it up matey.... i wanna see that pic, i was gona remove the handle and the wiper but keep the number plate on the boot lid. unless that punto wiper looks sweet ????

Cheers rob

Yeah they do look good, they're angled over so not as primitive looking as the Uno.................M.

Yeah ill keep the wheels so i can always swap them back, i wanted to go for 14 because i dont want to loose accleration by having great big wheels on a small car. i thought 14 " would go well on a 40 mm drop and not look to outa place.
I wanna keep the graphics but i need a wing so ill have to get them made up after the paint job has been done... cheers for your thoughts matee(y)

Bad pictue but you can see the difference................M.

Just thought they would look suttle and smooth on a red mark one and they have red writing on them aswell so i think they will suit it spot on... I need a decent camera my turbo looks just like yours but my cameara shows the car as orange and the pic quality is ****e so theres no point (n)
Im gonna get a new camera then ill slap loads up..

Looks good Rob, what colour code is yours? Someone must have pulled the sticker out of the boot sometime. I'm sure mine is 113 as I should imagine yours is, but the other day I had some mixed up and it looks different.....................M.

Hey, Rob, I'd stick 55 or 50 profile tyres on 14s if I were you.
More comfortability, but it's all down to what feeling you want to get with your car.

My Rover, as I told ya, have 50 profiles on 15"s wheels and, although these won't fit Unos without a nice amount of rubbing (unless you're after skinny 15s), a 50 profile tyre seems to be about right for these country roads!
