Hi, i have a fiat uno 94 IE.

My bright spark of a friend decided to put the + and - together when he was jump staring the car, and blew the left indicator. But now the right one has gone too.

The thing is, all the other indicators work, inc the side ones... but just not the front ones.

I have tried changing fuses/bulbs... but thats not helped... i even tried changing the entire fitting on the left indicator... still no joy. So I am now stuck unable to drive my car due to lack of indicator! :(

What could be wrong with my indicators, any ideas?

Thanks in advance guys/gals!

Sounds to me like you have blown the relay up. Take it out and replace it for another and see if thats ne good, failing that i'd check your wiring to the indicators at the front and check they are not burned out.
I dont see how you managed to do this by putting the live and earth round the wrong way as bulbs dont have a polarity they can work either way round, does every thing else work ok..

Well, i dno.... I will have a look. All that happened was, my numb nut of a friend put the positive and negative cables together when jump starting my uno.... which in turn blew the front left indicator. and then only recently 2 more indicators have gone.

Pretty sure u have fried your indicator relay, just try replacing it and then change all your indicator bulbs and try again.
I cant see how shorting the battery out has caused just the indicators to pop,but ill try change the relay and bulbs that should do it.. :D

Well, I got an auto-electrician out through my uncle.. so i knew he wasnt a cowboy.

Turns out it was a major coincidence, and that the indicators were popping off one by one all because of the age of the car, the connections were screwed, and needed replacing. And the funny thing was, just as he fixed the three broken indicators, another one broke . So he fixed that and now all the indicators are sorted. All in all it only cost £30... so a good deal!

again, thanks for the help people!

Yes - I thought it was a strange one :)

During vigorous use of the steering, the indicator flasher has sometimes popped out of my Uno Turbo's indicator switch assembly - I take the covers off the steering column and find the flasher lying in the bottom. Of course when this happens, all indicators and the hazard flashers stop working.

Uno lights are definitely in need of TLC at this age: another common problem with the fronts is the earth connections that push on to multi-spade terminals behind the headlights. But if you clean and tighten everything with pliers, they should all work again. Back lights are similarly notorious - the multi-pin plugs often need cleaning/tightening. Even washing the lens makes a difference to the brightness :) This is all stuff you can do yourself, with assorted screwdrivers, pliers, 'Scotchbrite' (green scourer), and a spraycan of electrical contact cleaner.

You think £30 is a good deal? I can almost hear PeteG sniggering from here... never mind, there's always next time to save your money (y) sorry I didn't reply earlier!

Yeah I think £30 is pretty good.

All the front/side indicator plugs needed removing and soldering and just as the guy fixed one, another went. I would rather pay £30 for 2 hrs work by a skilled auto electrician, than spend all day without any testing equipment doing it myself. (y)

Plus, all the other quotes I had of auto electricians were £30 just to FIND the fault.

Again, thanks for all the replys people!
